Former Soap Star Looks Back on ‘All My Children’ Days: ‘That Was My Education’

Long before he became a box office powerhouse, Michael B. Jordan was putting in the work in Pine Valley. The Oscar-nominated actor is reflecting on his early days playing Reggie Porter Montgomery on “All My Children,” sharing how the fast-paced soap schedule and working alongside legends like Susan Lucci became his real-life acting school.

‘Time on Show Did So Much For Me’

The 39-year-old actor appeared on “All My Children” from 2003 to 2006, appearing in 58 episodes. During a recent interview with SiriusXM, Jordan reacted to praise from former co-star Susan Lucci.

Lucci appeared on “Radio Andy” and talked about Jordan and his time on the former soap. She said, “He was always so wonderful to work with. He was prepared, he was on time, he was committed, he was sweet, he was respectful to everyone around him — cast, crew, producers, everybody, you name it. But not nauseously so, you know, not phony baloney. He was authentically who he was. He was a genuinely terrific young man.”

Jordan said the praise was “sweet,” and he needs to “get in touch with her.” He then reflected on his time on the show, recalling that it was his acting education.

Michael said, “That time I spent on that show did so much for me education-wise.” He went on to say that he had the honor of “learning about the craft” with stars like Lucci, Darnell Williams, and Walt Willey.

It was no joke either, as Jordan said, “We did 100-plus pages a day.”

Soaps are a real education into acting. Michael continued, “We did an episode and a half a day, you know what I’m saying? It was a machine. And [for] a kid that never really went to acting classes and never went to acting school or anything like that, that was my education. I learned from them.”

‘All My Children’ Movies

Soap opera fans have been overly excited, as Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos announced they will be bringing two “All My Children” movies to Lifetime.

Ripa talked with Lucci regarding these movies during an episode of her SiriusXM podcast, “Let’s Talk Off Camera.” During that talk, Lucci said she would consider reprising her role as Erica Kane for the Lifetime movies.

This isn’t the first time Ripa has attempted to revive the “All My Children” universe. She worked on a primetime reboot titled “Pine Valley” previously. It centered on a young journalist who arrives in Pine Valley with a secret agenda, but the network never brought it to air.
