Kelly Ripa Reveals Mark Consuelos’ Big Career Move Live on Air

Kelly Ripa turned an ordinary morning on “Live With Kelly and Mark” into must-watch TV when she casually teased a “huge announcement.” Ripa then stunned viewers by revealing her husband and co-host Mark Consuelos is heading to Broadway. The surprise reveal, which left Consuelos visibly nervous and the studio audience cheering, marked a major career moment for the longtime actor and added an unexpected dose of theatrical flair to the daytime show.

Mark Consuelos Headed to Broadway

During the live broadcast of the show on Wednesday, January 21, Kelly shared the big news with the audience.

Ripa, as she was touching her husband on the arm, said, “I have a big announcement to make. A huge announcement to make.”

It turns out, she was about to reveal Mark’s shocking next career move. Ripa continued, “You see this man right here? Mark Consuelos? Cohost of this here talk show? He’s going to Broadway! That’s right!”

Of course, the news was followed by big applause from the audience.

It seems that Consuelos “started sweating” backstage at the talk show, knowing they were about to make the big announcement to the world. Ripa joked, “Is the anxiety kicking in? When you agreed to do it months ago, my anxiety kicked in.”

Mark added, “I’ve been wanting to do this. I love getting on stage. It’s been years since I’ve had a chance to do it because of travel, and living here in New York City, I’m pretty much anchored here now. I’m trapped! So, I thought it would be a good idea!”

The Broadway Role

So, what role will Mark Consuelos be taking on on Broadway? It turns out he will be starring opposite Rose Byrne and Kelli O’Hara in an upcoming production of Noël Coward’s 1925 play “Fallen Angels.”

The play follows two upper-class married women whose lives happen to be exposed as they talk over alcohol while waiting for the arrival of a man with romantic ties to both of them.

Consuelos will play Maurice Duclos, the man with romantic ties to both women, according to the production’s website.

It Runs In the Family

Of course, Ripa and Consuelos met on the set of the soap opera “All My Children.” They both have extensive histories as actors, but it looks like the acting bug runs deeper down their family lines.

As the conversation continued, Ripa said, “What’s interesting is that — and we’ve not talked about this on the show — our youngest son and recent University of Michigan School of Drama graduate is also going to be on Broadway in ‘Death of a Salesman’ at basically the same time,” speaking of their son Joaquin Consuelos.

Kelly continued, “So, every night, I’m going to have this choice, like, who do I see tonight? Do I go see my husband, or do I go see my beloved son?”

In the end, she joked, “I’m just going to be seeing hella theater.”
