Lindsey Vonn is opening up about the brutal reality of her recovery after a devastating crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The Olympic champion shared a candid update with fans on Sunday, March 1, posting a striking photo of her legs resting on an exercise ball after undergoing multiple surgeries. In the caption, she wrote, “And just like that….All my muscles are gone 😔.”
The image showed Vonn’s left leg — which she broke during the Feb. 8 crash — wrapped in several bandages, highlighting the physical toll of the accident.
The skier had been hospitalized in Italy for weeks before finally returning home.
Vonn Is Finally Back Home
While Vonn said it felt good to be back in her own bed, the homecoming was bittersweet.
She revealed that her beloved dog, Leo, died the day after her crash, making the return especially emotional.
“Home sweet home. Feels good to sleep in my own bed… but wheeling through the front door without Leo greeting me like always was a very hard reality,” she wrote. “A reality I had to face. Along with many other hard realities that lay in front of me as I move forward….”
Now focused on rehabilitation, Vonn acknowledged that the road ahead will be difficult.
“I’m focused now on therapy and getting healthy. It’s going to be a hard and painful journey but I am putting all of my energy into it, like I always do. I’m going to take some time for myself. I’ll give you updates when I can but right now my focus is on taking care of myself,” she added.
Vonn Has Updated Fans Throughout Her Recovery
Vonn has kept fans updated throughout her recovery, previously revealing she nearly lost her leg due to compartment syndrome, a dangerous condition that occurs when swelling cuts off blood supply to muscles and nerves.
In an earlier video, she explained, “Compartment syndrome is when you have so much trauma to one area of your body that there’s too much blood, and it gets stuck, and it basically crushes everything in the compartment… So, all the muscle and nerves and tendons, it all kind of dies.”
She credited her doctor, Tom Hackett, with saving her leg and helping her begin the long rehabilitation process.
Despite the shocking images and painful setbacks, Vonn’s message to fans remains consistent: she’s determined to heal.
Known for her resilience throughout her skiing career, she’s now channeling that same drive into recovery — one difficult step at a time.
