One of the stars of the comedy series “Black-ish” has married his childhood sweetheart at a Los Angeles restaurant. Marcus Scribner is best known for portraying Andre Johnson Jr. in the ABC sitcom and subsequently went on to star in the spin-off “Grown-ish” from the fifth season. He is now a series regular in the police procedural “Boston Blue.”
According to Vogue, which featured the wedding ceremony in an extensive story, Scribner wed Gracie Globerman on August 4 at the exclusive République restaurant.

The ceremony itself took place at République, where the guests were able to see the nuptials, take in the speeches, and dine on a multicourse dinner and yuzu olive oil wedding cake.. The groom walked down the aisle to the Laufey song “From the Start,” while Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games” was played for the bride.
The group went on to continue the celebrations with late-night tacos and a morning brunch the following day at the groom’s family home.
République describes itself as a “French-inspired” bakery, café, bar, and formal dining room” that is located in the Mid-city neighborhood of Los Angeles in a building that was built in 1928. Globerman revealed they chose the restaurant because of its great food. She said, “The lazy girl in me was also excited that a restaurant means everything is there—so no rentals, it’s already staffed with experts, and did I mention we knew the food would be incredible?”
In an Instagram post, Vogue posted details about the fashion choices the couple made for the wedding alongside a series of photographs. Globerman wore a stylish white dress that she explained was “a funky, less traditional dress with a lot of tulle,” along with brown Jimmy Choo shoes. Meanwhile, Scribner was dressed in a classic chocolate brown wool suit created by J. Mueser.
The pair first became engaged in August 2025 and chose to marry in Los Angeles despite the fact that they live in New York so that their elderly grandparents would be able to attend the ceremony. “It was important to us to give all of our living grandparents an opportunity to see their first grandchildren get married,” explained Globerman.
The Couple Originally Met in Middle School
The couple were in sixth grade the first time that they met. Both attended Emerson Middle School in Los Angeles and Scribner told Vogue, “I remember seeing her during one of our lunches over at the benches, thinking, Who is that?”
Too nervous to ask her on a date, they became close friends but lost touch while Scribner was working on “Black-ish.” They ultimately reconnected during a mentoring day at their old middle school during senior year.
“I saw her there and knew it was fate,” Marcus remembers. “I could finally grow a full mustache. I was feeling confident.”
Scribner still had to wait, though, as his future wife had a boyfriend. He reveals, “So the long game continued. As soon as my homie hit me and told me they broke up, I sprang into action. The rest is history.”
