Nancy Guthrie Disappearance: FBI Pivots to Disturbing New Search Location

The FBI is not giving up its search for Nancy Guthrie as the investigation nears its eighth week.

A disturbing new update emerged on Friday, March 20, as Nancy Grace revealed that “dump sites used by construction crews are being searched.”

Disturbing Update in Nancy Guthrie Investigation

Nancy Grace sat down with Crime Stories investigative reporter Dave Mack for the Friday, March 20, episode of her “Crime Stories with Nancy Grace,” where the two discussed the latest in the Nancy Guthrie investigation.

“We know that the investigation has really gotten into these construction sites, Nancy, to identify all personnel, including daily contractors who have come in,” Mack said. “They’re trying to identify not just people, but you went mentioned the trash. They’re trying to determine where trash is being taken, where are the dump sites for these individual homes that are under construction.”

Grace went on to share her own experience with dump site searches, saying they are “very difficult.”

“You have to break it down into grid searches. It’s really, really hard to do,” she added.

While the update in the search location may seem disturbing, Grace made it clear that she does not necessarily believe they are looking for Guthrie’s body. One reason, she says, she doesn’t believe they are searching for human remains, is the lack of reports of cadaver dogs being utilized in the search.

“Did you know that those grids have specific dates, like when these things would have been picked up, where they were deposited, because you cannot continue to deposit things in the same location over and over again,” forensics professor Scott Morgan explained. “It has to be it has to be organized in order to facilitate this.”

Morgan continued, “The one difficult part that I have always found in any of these things I’ve ever searched is that you have you have equipment that runs over the stuff to kind of pack it down, and that creates an absolute nightmare for investigators when they go out there to begin to search.”

Morgan listed some examples of what investigators might be looking for in their dump site searches, including bits of wood, tools, or “biological” materials.

Nancy Guthrie Investigation Continues

The FBI, along with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, are working around the clock to solve this high-profile missing persons case.

Guthrie has been missing since February 1, when she was taken from her home against her will.

The 84-year-old mother of “Today” host Savannah Guthrie was last seen on January 31.
