Nancy Guthrie Update: FBI May Not Have Significant Intel at This Point — Report

A retired FBI special agent believes investigators may still not have significant leads on the Nancy Guthrie case.

Steve Moore, who has 25 years of investigative experience, told NewsNation’s Brian Entin that investigators have likely gathered a trove of information, but much of it may be of little to no value.

“If they had significant information, they would have more progress on the case,” Moore explained in the latest episode of “Brian Entin Investigates.”

He continued, “I think what you would find is if you could go in and get briefed by four or five different agents who are working it, you would find so much information that ultimately turned out to be of little or no value, but seemed so, so promising at the time. And it would probably light a fire on social media if the public knew these things, and it would light a fire that would not be helpful.”

Moore also explained why the FBI will not release key details on the Nancy Guthrie case.

“The FBI and law enforcement, in general, are only going to release what needs to be released,” he added. “They are not a media company. They are an investigative and prosecutive organization.”

Moore clarified that the FBI has nothing against the public, noting there’s a reason why very little information on the Nancy Guthrie case is released.

“And it’s not because the FBI hates the public. It’s not because agents don’t want the people to know. The FBI wants them to know,” Moore stressed. “They want to tell you everything about the case right down to the tiniest detail.”

The retired special agent added that the FBI is gearing up for trial, where they will present everything the public needs to know.

“They want everything to come out in trial. They are not hiding this,” he explained. “They are preparing for trial, where they will tell you everything, because that is where the public has the absolute right to know.”

Moore continued, “We have public trials. We don’t have public investigations. Those are the two differences.”

Meanwhile, Moore shared his thoughts on the United Cajun Navy’s offer to assist in the Nancy Guthrie search and the lack of response from the sheriff’s office.

“I mean, why not? What are we losing here?” Moore told Entin. “You already released a crime scene too early. Now you’re afraid that they’re going to, you know, trump on your crime scene again.”

The retired FBI agent admitted that he isn’t hopeful the United Cajun Navy will find anything, but sees nothing wrong in trying.

“I’m not necessarily 101% hopeful that they’ll find anything, but how is that going to destroy society in the Tucson area?” Moore added. “Let them do it. Show them some respect. They’re willing to help you.”

Nancy Guthrie was reportedly abducted from her home in the early morning hours of February 1.
