Investigators in the Nancy Guthrie disappearance have turned their attention to construction crews who may have been in the area around the time she went missing.
According to News Nation reporter Brian Entin, one of Guthrie’s neighbors who is “building a house down the street from Nancy” informed him that the FBI requested information on the “workers and contractors at that house.”
FBI Is Digging Into Construction Crews in Nancy’s Neighborhood
Entin was joined by former FBI special agent Steve Moore for the Tuesday, March 18, episode of his “Brian Entin Investigates” web series. The duo discussed possible reasons why the FBI may be showing a new interest in day workers in Gutrhie’s Tucson, Arizona, neighborhood.
“Obviously, it means they’re retracing steps,” Moore explained. “It does stand out for one reason.”
He continued, “The theory of the crime is a big deal. The theory of the crime informs every other bit of investigation you do. And from the beginning, the theory of the crime has been that this was targeted. That this wasn’t a random thing where somebody goes to a house, he doesn’t know who he’s going to find inside. He’s thinking, I’ll just get the usual cash in the underwear drawer, and you know, some jewelry, watches, something like that. But no, that’s not what happened here.”
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department, along with the FBI’s Phoenix Division, has publicly acknowledged that Guthrie’s disappearance was believed to be a targeted attack, though the motive remains unclear.
“So then you have to find out who would target it, you know, obviously going back to the beginning, but there are two or three areas. Did they target Nancy? Did they target Savannah? Did they target Annie?” Moore theorized. “They targeted this residence for a specific purpose. I believe 100 percent they knew that Nancy Guthrie was on the other side of that door when they were trying to cover up the Ring camera. So this goes to the point that while the FBI may have changed their theory of why she was targeted, they have not, for one minute, changed their theory that she was targeted.”
He went on to explain that, while the contractors may not be suspects in a crime, there is a good chance that they had come into contact with Nancy in the days leading up to her disappearance.
Nancy Guthrie Remains Missing
The 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie has been missing since February 1. She was last seen the prior evening at a family dinner hosted by her daughter Annie Guthrie.
According to reports, Nancy used an Uber to arrive at Annie’s home on January 31. Investigators have been in contact with the hired driver and obtained video footage from that Uber ride.
In addition, footage was uncovered from Nancy’s video doorbell from the night she was abducted. The FBI is asking for the public’s help in identifying the masked, armed man seen tampering with Nancy’s camera.
