Nancy Guthrie Disappearance: Pacemaker Lost Sync With Apple Watch as Search Intensifies

The search for Nancy Guthrie has grown increasingly urgent as new details emerge in the disappearance of the mother of “Today” host Savannah Guthrie.

Authorities say the developments have raised serious concerns as investigators work to determine what happened in the hours before the 84-year-old vanished.

Pacemaker Lost Sync With Apple Watch as Search Intensifies

The search for Nancy Guthrie grew more concerning after investigators learned that her pacemaker stopped syncing with her Apple devices in the early hours of Sunday.

A law enforcement source told Fox News that the implanted device lost contact with her Apple Watch and phone around 2 a.m. local time. When authorities later arrived at her Arizona home, both the phone and the Apple Watch were found inside, according to the source.

The information has heightened concern in the case of the missing 84-year-old and added urgency to efforts to locate Savannah Guthrie’s mother.

Sheriff Announces Surprise Press Conference

As concern around the case has intensified with each passing hour, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office announced a surprise press conference scheduled for late Tuesday morning, around 11:30 a.m. local time/1:30 PM ET.

The announcement came just hours after officials had said no media briefings were planned for the day.

Authorities are expected to provide an update on the investigation, which law enforcement has described as a possible “kidnapping or abduction.”

Earlier in the day, an LA Times report confirmed that investigators discovered blood and signs of forced entry inside Guthrie’s home after she was reported missing.

Nancy’s Medical Needs Heighten the Urgency

Officials have repeatedly emphasized that Guthrie’s medical condition makes time a critical factor in the search.

“We talked with her medical professionals … and we know the meds she needs, and going without her meds can be fatal,” Nanos told US Weekly. “And 24 hours later, time is of the essence here.”

Guthrie was last seen Saturday night, January 31. Nanos confirmed that her daughter, Annie Guthrie, was the last family member to see her after dropping her off at home.

Concern intensified late Sunday morning when Guthrie failed to attend church. Police were notified shortly after noon, narrowing the investigative timeline to a window between about 9:30 p.m. Saturday and late Sunday morning.

‘She Didn’t Go Willingly,’ Sheriff Says

In a separate interview with CBS News, Nanos said investigators do not believe Guthrie left her home on her own.

“She didn’t walk from there. She didn’t go willingly.”

Authorities have not ruled out any possibilities but said there is no indication at this time that Savannah Guthrie’s public profile played a role in the disappearance. “It’s a possibility,” Nanos said. “But we’re not getting that sense.”

Savannah Guthrie was absent from Monday’s episode of “Today” as she remains in Arizona with her family. She has asked fans for their prayers as the search continues.

Authorities say hope is still alive, even as every hour that passes sharpens the urgency to find her.
