The Guthrie family is facing an increasingly painful ordeal as concern deepened Monday over the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother. During “Today,” it was revealed that Nancy Guthrie does not currently have access to the medication she needs to survive.
Fox reported that Nancy, 84, went missing late Saturday night from her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Arizona. Authorities continue to search for her, treating the case as a search and rescue.
‘Today’ Reveals Medication Concern as Search Continues
During Monday’s broadcast, Jenna Bush Hager shared a deeply personal update that underscored the urgency of the search, speaking directly about Nancy Guthrie’s medical needs.
“I know her personally. And we want to just report, too, that she takes daily medication and she needs them for survival,” Hager said, as reported by The Daily Mail.
“She’s without her medication. We are thinking of our dearest, dearest Savannah and her whole family right now in our prayers.”
The show also clarified that Nancy does not have dementia or any form of cognitive decline, according to information shared on air.
FBI Aware as Homicide Detectives Assist Investigation
Earlier Monday, “Today” reported that the FBI is aware of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. As per NBC, Homicide detectives were brought in after authorities described evidence found at her home as concerning.
NBC crime analyst Tom Winter addressed the development during the broadcast. “The FBI is also aware of this case… given the nature of what was found at the scene,” he said.
“That’s what has got them so concerned.”
Winter added that investigators are limiting what they share publicly. “We are withholding some details, as we would do with any investigation, to make sure the investigation could go forward without us interfering in it.”
Savannah Guthrie Thanks Supporters as Search Expands
Savannah, 54, was absent from Monday’s broadcast but shared a statement through “Today” as the search for her mother continued.
“I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom,” she said.
“We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone, anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s office at 520-351-4900.”
Nancy was last seen around 9:45 p.m. Saturday. Authorities have not released additional details about the evidence found at her home as the investigation remains ongoing.
Extensive Search Underway Near Arizona Border
The New York Post reported that Authorities said Customs and Border Protection has joined sheriff’s deputies in the search, expanding efforts because of the home’s proximity to the Mexican border. Drones and a sheriff’s aircraft are also being used as crews continue to look for Nancy.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said the case is still being treated as a search-and-rescue, though investigators have not ruled out foul play. Officials added that Nancy showed no signs of cognitive issues around the time she went missing.
On “Today,” Craig Melvin acknowledged how deeply the situation has affected the broadcast team.
NBC“This is very concerning to us,” he told viewers, describing the moment as “deeply personal” for the “Today” family.
Nancy Guthrie has appeared alongside her daughter on the show over the years, and Savannah has often spoken publicly about their close bond.
As the search continues, concern remains high, with colleagues, viewers, and authorities holding on to hope for her safe return.
