Authorities have reason to believe that the suspect who kidnapped Nancy Guthrie from her home in Catalina Foothills is also from the Tucson, Arizona, area, TMZ reported.
According to TMZ’s law enforcement sources involved in the investigation, the person seen in the images and security footage from the night Nancy was taken is also likely somewhere within a 700-mile radius of Tucson, given the fact that they said they’d return Nancy within 12 hours after receiving their $6 million ransom demand.
Nancy Guthrie Suspect Is Familiar With Tucson Area
TMZ’s law enforcement sources also have reason to believe that the kidnapper is the person navigating and writing the ransom letters. Being that the abductor sent their first ransom letter to two local TV stations in Tucson, authorities told the outlet that the person of interest must be familiar with the area. The second ransom demand was also sent to a local TV station in Tucson — providing investigators with further reason to suggest that the kidnapper is well versed on where in the area would have the most reach when it came to reporting on their ransom demands.
In the same report, law enforcement told TMZ that the photos of the suspect shared on Tuesday, Feb. 10, were sent straight to the public after authorities obtained them.
When the suspect’s images were released to the public in hopes of someone recognizing the person of interest, TMZ reported that the footage was likely captured by a Nest camera on Nancy’s front porch.
Nancy Guthrie Suspect Seen Wearing Ski Mask at Her Front Door
The images and video showed the suspect as they approached Nancy’s front door while wearing black rubber gloves, a ski mask and a backpack. Before entering the home, the suspect tampered with one of the cameras on the 84-year-old’s doorstep, according to FBI Director Kash Patel, per TMZ.
After the surveillance footage went viral, Savannah Guthrie reposted the photos and video to her Instagram, where she has shared several videos in which she and her siblings, Camron and Annie Guthrie, have pleaded with their mom’s kidnapper, telling them that they want to talk to them. The Guthrie family has also stated their request for proof of life.
Savannah captioned the suspect’s images reposted from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, reiterating her family’s belief that their mom, Nancy, is still in a condition to make a return home to them.
“Someone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home,” Savannah wrote. “Anyone with information, please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department 520-351-4900.”
