Beloved NHL reporter Jessi Pierce has died. She, along with her three children and their family dog, tragically passed away in a house fire at their home in Minnesota on Saturday, March 21, People reports.
Firefighters were called to the home after neighbors noticed a fire coming from the roof. Sadly, all those inside had perished. “Our hearts ache for all those involved in this tragedy,” Fire Chief Greg Peterson shared in a statement, People reports. “We ask for the opportunity to allow our community to come together and support one another during this difficult time.”
Since the news of Pierce’s passing, heartbreaking tributes have been pouring in from her friends, colleagues, and fans.

Among the tributes is one from sportswriter Michael Russo, who penned a beautiful message about Pierce on X on Sunday, March 21. He also shared more details about the husband that she leaves behind and how he lost his entire family that night.
“There are no words to express how heartbroken we all are,” Russo began his message. “Jessi Pierce (Hinrichs) was the most vibrant person – the life of the party, always with a smile on her face, always bringing a passion to every article and podcast and interview she did. Jessi simply loved covering the Wild and hockey throughout Minnesota and had a way of brightening everyone’s day with her upbeat, bubbly personality. I have literally NEVER met anybody that had a way of being EVERYBODY’s friend.”
Russo praised Pierce for being a wonderful and loving mom to their three children, Hudson, Cayden, and Avery. He then commented on her husband, Mike. “My heart breaks for Mike for the loss of his wife and children and Jessi’s family, friends and colleagues for this unimaginable loss,” the tribute reads. “This hockey community lost a wonderful, energetic and one of a kind voice and story teller and Grade A person … Please keep Jessi and her beautiful kids in your thoughts and prayers. I wish Mike all the peace and support and happiness in the world.”
Fans had questions where Mike was on the night his family died in the house fire, and Russo provided new details. “Does anyone know where the husband was during the fire?” a fan asked, to which Russo replied, “Work trip out of town.”
