Race Against Time in Search for Nancy Guthrie

Nancy was last seen at her home on the night of Saturday, January 31. She was reported missing by her family at noon on February 1, per TODAY.

County Sheriff Chris Nanos told NBC’s Liz Kreutz in a new interview on February 3 that the search is “a race against time.” He added, “I hope that window hasn’t closed.”

Nanos also revealed that possible DNA evidence has been found at the crime scene, though it could take several days before investigators obtain conclusive results.

“We took some samples that we hope will have enough profile of a DNA profile that gives us some identification of what we’re looking at,” Nanos told TODAY.

On February 2, Nanos told NBC Nightly News that they believe Nancy “was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving.”

“I can’t think of the last time where in the middle of the night in someone’s bed, an 84-year-old woman disappeared on us,” he added.

The sheriff’s department later clarified that Nano’s statement was taken out of context, adding that he “did not mean that she was literally taken from her bed.”

Nanos previously told reporters that Nancy has “no cognitive issues” and is “very alert, she’s of good, sound mind.” However, he also noted that Nancy is “not in good physical health.”

Savannah Guthrie Asks for Prayers

Meanwhile, Savannah took to Instagram on February 2 and asked for prayers for Nancy’s safe return.

“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope,” she wrote in part. “We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him.”
