Rudy Giuliani is now out of the ICU.
“Mayor Rudy Giuliani is out of the ICU and will spend some time recovering before leaving the hospital,” his spokesperson wrote on Thursday, May 7.
He added, “The mayor and his family appreciate the outpouring of love and prayers sent his way.”
The message added that “The power of prayer is working. The mayor feels it. We feel it. Please keep them coming for America’s Mayor, Rudy Giuliani.”
He Was Previously Given His Last Rights
He reportedly was visited by a priest and given his last rights during his current hospitalization.
Dr. Maria Ryan told Fox News on Monday, May 4, that he was also on a ventilator, but is now breathing on his own.
The illness occurred after a trip to Paris.
“He’s a fighter — the way he was yesterday in such a critical condition, he did have a priest come anoint him,” Ryan told the outlet. “And all the prayers from around — it’s like a miracle. This guy’s got 9 lives, today he’s doing much better.”
As of Tuesday, May 5, he is able to speak and remains in critical but stable condition.
It was previously reported he was suffering from pneumonia, according to the New York Post.
His business partner Tom von Essen spoke with the outlet and noted that “Rudy had a tough weekend. He had pneumonia.”
He added, “Today is an important day.”
Giuliani was hospitalized and is in critical condition, according to a statement released by his spokesperson.
On Sunday, May 3, spokesman Ted Goodman shared an update on social media confirming that the former New York City mayor, 81, is receiving medical care.
While the situation is serious, Goodman noted that Giuliani’s condition is stable.
“Mayor Rudy Giuliani is currently in the hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition,” the statement read. “Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak.”
The message also included a call for public support during this time. “We do ask that you join us in prayer for America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani,” Goodman added.
He is currently in a Florida medical center.
