Fans of ‘Married at First Sight UK‘ have rushed to the defense of a series 10 groom they believe has been given a rough ride so far.
Ashley Dommett, 35, an operations director from Bridgend in South Wales, was matched with midwife Grace Law, 31, from Norwich in Norfolk, England — and it’s safe to say the blushing bride was far from instantly smitten with her new husband.
The couple’s wedding featured in the second episode of the series, which aired on Monday, September 22, on E4 in the United Kingdom.
Law immediately decided that rugby fanatic Dommett wasn’t her type and proceeded to act rather cold towards him for much of the couple’s wedding day — which included rejecting a kiss on the lips during their wedding photographs, followed by a look of disgust as she received a peck on the cheek from Dommett.
Her reaction to the farmer’s son — who describes himself as having “old school values” — has resulted in fans of MAFS UK jumping to his defense on social media.
MAFS UK Fans Think ‘Fab’ and ‘Lovely’ Ashley Deserves a Chance
The official ‘Married at First Sight UK’ Instagram account posted a video of Grace’s negative reaction to Ashley’s kiss on her cheek from Ashley during their wedding photos, along with a caption saying, “Is a cheeky kiss too much PDA for Grace? #MAFSUK” Fans of the show were quick to offer him their support in the comments.
One user wrote, “He actually seems like a really genuine man! I hope grace doesn’t waste his time!!”
Another user said, “This guy is fab, I would be happy with him at the end of the aisle. He’s in for a tough ride poor guy.”
Someone else commented, “He seems lovely 😢 Match him up with Emma from last year 👏❤️” — “Emma” being a reference to Emma Barnes from series 9 of MAFS UK, who was similarly rejected by her husband, Caspar Todd.
The post also prompted several people to ask why someone like Grace, who they deemed to be a little closed-minded, would even want to appear on MAFS. One such comment read, “Anyone else wondering why most of them have gone on the programme so far? Other than for a good moan.. like do they know how MAFs works 😂? Do they not get vetted at all?”
Fans ‘Don’t Get’ Grace’s Attitude
An earlier post on the MAFS UK Instagram account, captioned “Grace has doubts at the altar #MAFSUK,” showed Grace saying “I wouldn’t say he’s my type” after meeting Ashley at the altar.
It prompted a similar defense of Ashley from fans who questioned why Grace would appear on a show like ‘Married at First Sight’ if she wasn’t willing to give someone a chance.
One fan wrote, “I don’t get these people, willing to “marry” a stranger then just moan about them 😂😂”
Another commented, “He’s lovely…my goodness, if you go on mafs you have to be prepared to make effort to build something. Amazes me what these people are thinking going on these shows.”
Someone else replied, “I would be very happy with him at the end of my aisle!!”
The next episode of MAFS UK will air at 9 p.m. GMT on E4 on Tuesday, September 23. It will feature Ashley and Grace’s honeymoon in exotic Thailand — and ‘Married at First Sight UK’ viewers will be hoping Grace gives Ashley more of a chance than she’s given him so far on the show.
