Popular TV Star Shares Devastating Update as Cancer Spreads to Brain: ‘My Light Is Starting to Fade’

Mel Schilling, the beloved relationship expert from the reality series “Married at First Sight,” has shared a deeply emotional update about her health. Schilling, 54, revealed in a recent Instagram post that her cancer has progressed. The TV personality was first diagnosed with colon cancer in December 2023.

Since then, the illness has spread to her lungs and more recently to the left side of her brain.

Schilling Says She Does Not Know How Long She Has Left

In the emotional Instagram update, Schilling revealed that her medical team has told her there are no remaining treatment options.

“Despite subsequent radiotherapy sessions, my oncology team have now told me there is nothing further they can do,” she wrote.

Schilling also shared that she continued working even while undergoing intensive treatment after her diagnosis.

She completed 16 rounds of chemotherapy while still filming ‘Married at First Sight.’ Despite the demanding schedule and physical toll, she remained committed to the series and its audience.

At one point, Schilling believed a new treatment option might offer hope.

She had been preparing to join a clinical trial designed for patients with her specific genetic profile, which was scheduled to begin this month.

But her condition took a sudden turn over the holiday period. She revealed that last Christmas, she began experiencing alarming symptoms.

“I began experiencing ‘blinding headaches and numbness down my right side’,” she wrote.

The symptoms soon began interfering with everyday activities. “Simple tasks have become incredibly difficult,” Schilling wrote about her current condition, adding: “I honestly don’t know how long I have left, but I do know I will fight to my last breath.”

The ‘Married at First Sight’ Expert Urges Others to Listen to Their Bodies

In her message, Schilling also used the moment to urge others to take their health seriously and listen to their bodies.

She stressed that paying attention to unusual symptoms and seeking medical advice early can make a critical difference.

“If something doesn’t feel right,” she wrote, encouraging people to get checked.

Schilling also shared a photo of herself with her husband and daughter, expressing gratitude for their love and support during what she described as one of the most challenging chapters of her life.

Channel 4 and Colleagues Share Support for Schilling

Schilling has been part of “Married at First Sight” since 2016. She first appeared on the Australian version before later joining the UK series, which airs on Channel 4’s E4.

Earlier this year, she announced she would step away from the Australian edition of the show to focus on her health and family.

Channel 4 shared a statement expressing support for the longtime reality TV expert.

As per the Independent, the statement read: “Mel has become a hugely valued and much-loved part of the Channel 4 family; to many of us, she is a friend as well as a colleague.

“Her wisdom, warmth, humour and kindness shine through, and these qualities mean that everyone involved in MAFS, from the producers and contributors, to the viewers, love and respect her as much as we do.”

According to a BBC report, the Production company CPL also shared a message of support for Schilling and her family.

“Mel is greatly loved and respected by everyone at CPL, and our thoughts are with her and her family as they face this profoundly difficult time.”

BBC reports that in the meantime, fellow expert John Aiken from ‘Married at First Sight Australia’ will step in to complete filming for the current UK season.
