Ricky Gervais’ Longtime Partner Jane Fallon Bravely Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Author Jane Fallon has shared that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer after the illness was detected during a routine screening. Fallon, who has been in a relationship with comedian Ricky Gervais for more than 40 years, revealed the news to followers on Instagram.

The bestselling novelist said the diagnosis came as a surprise because she had not experienced any symptoms.

“So… I thought I should post something as I’ve had a few people notice I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately,” Fallon wrote. “About a month ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer – very early stage, thankfully, & the prognosis is excellent.”

Routine Mammogram Led Doctors to Spot a Concern

Fallon revealed that a routine mammogram she completed shortly before Christmas led doctors to detect the cancer.

“I had a routine mammogram a week before Christmas. I had no symptoms, but the brilliant radiographer spotted something iffy & sent me for further tests & eventually a biopsy.”

The 65-year-old explained that the weeks that followed involved a series of additional tests as doctors worked to pinpoint the exact area of concern.

“Since then, I’ve had more mammograms, more biopsies, and an MRI so they can pinpoint the problem area precisely. It’s been a lot, I’m not going to lie.”

Fallon added that she is now preparing for surgery. “I’m getting incredible care, and all will be fine, but I’m not engaging with much beyond audiobooks & jigsaws tbh. Dr Eric on duty. Nurse Pickle wondering when lunch is.”

From Television Producer to Bestselling Novelist

Fallon began her career in television before eventually turning her focus to writing.

Her debut novel, “Getting Rid of Matthew,” was published in 2007 and quickly attracted a large readership. In the years since, Fallon has written more than a dozen novels.

Some of her best-known titles include “Worst. Idea. Ever,” Faking Friends,” “Just Got Real,” and “Queen Bee.”

Through her bestselling work, Fallon has become one of the United Kingdom’s most recognized contemporary fiction authors.

Fallon met Ricky Gervais in 1982 while the two were studying at University College London, as reported by The Telegraph. Their relationship has now spanned more than four decades.

The couple moved in together in 1984 and today live in Hampstead, London, where they share their home with their pets, as reported by People.

Gervais has often spoken openly about why the couple chose not to marry, explaining that their long partnership already feels like a marriage.

The comedian spoke to The Times in 2010 and said: “We are married for all intents and purposes, everything’s shared, and actually our fake marriage has lasted longer than a real one. But there’s no point in us having an actual ceremony before the eyes of God because there is no God.”

As Fallon prepares for surgery and the next stage of treatment, many fans are sending messages of support and encouragement.

Another added: “Sending positive energy and thoughts your way.” A third commented: “Jane I am so sorry to hear this, please take care, cuddle Pickle a lot more and make Ricky eat more sprouts lol, hope all goes well with surgery and recovery, hugs.”

Earlier this year, Fallon also reflected on her personal life and the choice she made not to have children.

Fallon shared a similar take during an appearance on the “Second Act” podcast, saying she has no regrets about her decision not to have children.

According to The Independent, she said, “When I was little, you know the cliche of a little girl is they imagine their wedding day and their wedding dress… it was none of that, ever.”

“I would think about getting a dog or something. It was always about work and my life. I would think about the flat that I would live in and stuff like that. But I was never into that kind of romance stuff.”

Fallon has also spoken about how her personality may have shaped that decision. “I’m a real catastrophist… I assume the worst.”

With the cancer caught early and her prognosis described as excellent, we hoping for a smooth recovery and strength throughout her journey.
