Award-winning English author and television producer Jane Fallon is speaking out after a false obituary circulated online, just weeks after she shared her breast cancer diagnosis, responding with clarity and strength.
The bestselling author, who has been in a long-term relationship with comedian-actor Ricky Gervais, addressed the situation in a brave message, making it clear she is focused on setting the record straight rather than dwelling on it.
Jane Fallon Clarifies Fake Obituary and AI Images
GettyFallon took to X to share her stance and respond with courage and strength. She wrote: “I’ve taken the post about the obituary down, because I don’t want people to think I’m upset by it.
“I’m not [Expletives] off, yes. But more, I just want people to know that any photos you see of me in hospital, looking sad or with tubes sticking out of me are 100% fake – AI generated”.
Following her post, Fallon received an outpouring of support from fans, many of whom condemned the false obituary and expressed concern.
“It’s so sad that you have to make this post. You have been so brave being so honest about your illness. I love your posts! Some people are awful and this AI generation is awful! Look after yourself and your gorgeous family! That’s all that matters”, one user wrote.
Others described the situation as “awful” and “the lowest of the low,” while many shared messages of encouragement.
“Jane, we live in an awful, sad world. Why someone would want to do that defies logic. Hope you’re feeling stronger and day by day getting back to feeling more like yourself,” another supporter added.
Author Shares Positive Recovery Update After Surgery
Fallon’s message came after a positive health update following surgery, offering reassurance as she continues her recovery.
She shared that she was diagnosed in March following a routine mammogram and has since undergone a procedure to remove the tumor.
Fallon also shared a hopeful update, highlighting both her progress and gratitude for early diagnosis.
She wrote: “(Mostly) good update: Things I forgot to say in the video: I’m still getting fabulous treatment. And I know how lucky I am to have had my diagnosis so early – from a routine mammogram with absolutely no symptoms. I’ve had so many conversations with lovely people who’ve come up to me in the street in the last couple of weeks & told me their own personal experiences, and it’s totally rammed home both how different it is for everyone and also how important screening and early diagnosis really is.”
“It will be just to make sure they get everything, which is a bit of a pain, but it isn’t a worry – they just need to make sure they have a clear margin, so will be the exact same operation as last time.”
