Fox Announces Long-Awaited Spin-Off to Beloved Series

“Family Guy,” which was created by Seth MacFarlane, remains one of the most popular animated series in its genre. Now, 30 years after its premiere, Fox has picked up a second spinoff series. This time, the show, aptly titled “Stewie,” will focus on the beloved toddler Stewie Griffin.

According to Deadline, Fox and Hulu have ordered two seasons of “Stewie” before production begins. Regarding its premise, the show will follow Griffin’s life as a preschooler. Additionally, the series will explore themes of space and time travel.

Currently, the plan is for the “Family Guy” spin-off to premiere on Fox for the 2027-2028 season. In the US, it will stream the following day on Hulu. International fans will have access to the upcoming show on Disney+.

Regarding the production of “Stewie,” Deadline reports that Fox and Hulu will share the cost. It’s not yet known how many episodes the first season will include, but it’s rumored to be slightly below 15.

Additionally, as he does for “Family Guy,” MacFarlane will continue to voice Griffin. Regarding the plot, it has also been reported that the show will function in a different world from “Family Guy,” with a new set of characters.

MacFarlane released a statement on the new show. He said, “I’d like to thank Fox for this incredible opportunity, and I’m excited to start pretending I’m collaborating closely with them on the show.”

Kirker Butler, one of the co-creators of the upcoming show and a longtime “Family Guy” writer, also released a statement.

He said, “I am honored and humbled that Seth, 20th Television Animation, and Fox have trusted me with one of the most iconic animated characters in the history of television. I have known Seth for more than two decades, worked with him on half a dozen projects, and I am hopeful this is the one where he finally learns my name.”

How Long Will ‘Family Guy’ Last?

“Family Guy” premiered on Fox in January 1999. Now, decades later, the show has surpassed its milestone 450th episode. Recently, MacFarlane appeared on “Today,” where one of the hosts asked how and when he believes the long-running show will end.

He responded, “I don’t know. I guess I’d have to go for my annual physical and have the doctor say, ‘Sit down.'” Macfarlane then said that it will “go as long as we’re capable of producing it.”

He then joked about “Family Guy,” saying, “Which seems like sort of a money grab, doesn’t it? Doesn’t seem like quite a creative response.”
