“Yellowstone” became one of television’s most-watched shows when it premiered in 2018, and now there are several spin-offs. The latest of these new shows is in production, and it’s set to focus on Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler. Now, beloved actress Annette Bening has been cast for the upcoming series.
PEOPLE confirmed that Benning will join the show alongside the two “Yellowstone” staples. Notably, this will be the Oscar-nominated actress’s first television role. The show, currently titled “The Dutton Ranch,” will also mark the return of Finn Little. Fans will recall that he played their adopted son in the original series.
So, who will Benning play in the upcoming series? The report states that the actress will portray Beulah Jackson. Her character is described as a “powerful, cunning, and charming head of a major ranch in Texas.”
The tagline for the “Yellowstone” spin-off reads, “Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler are grateful for the peace they sought, fought, and nearly died for with their 7,000-acre Dutton Ranch. With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter becomes the man he’s supposed to be.”
This ‘Yellowstone’ Spin-Off Has Been in the Works Since 2024
Initial news of this latest “Yellowstone” spin-off began to emerge in December 2024. This came as Deadline reported that both Reilly and Hauser had signed on to star in a new iteration of the series as their beloved characters.
As anyone could have guessed, “Yellowstone” mastermind Taylor Sheridan is the creative driving force behind the series. However, “Reilly and Hauser will also serve as producers. It is also believed that other characters from the original series will appear in this new spin-off.
Additionally, it’s also worth noting that while the working title is “The Dutton Ranch,” the first reporting from December stated that “Yellowstone” would be included in the show’s title.
There’s Another Upcoming Series in the Beloved Universe
Sheridan struck gold with the “Yellowstone” universe, and it is seemingly never-ending. In addition to “The Dutton Ranch,” there’s another spin-off that’s much closer to premiering. Called “Y: Marshals,” it will feature Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton.
According to IMDb, the show will find the beloved character leaving Yellowstone to join the US Marshals. In it, he will use the skills he gained as both a cowboy and a former NAVY SEAL to fight crime in Montana. The series will premiere on CBS in the spring of 2026.
