Laura Wright Praises Co-Star’s Directing Skills For ‘General Hospital’

Laura Wright has praised her co-star’s directing skills on “General Hospital“, saying they “did an incredible job” and touting them as “one of the best.”

Kate Mansi directed the Monday, March 16, episode, in which Molly (Kristen Vaganos) reveals her struggles with endometriosis to Cody (Josh Kelly).

Mansi Was “Intimidated” to Direct Wright

Wright, who plays Carly Spencer on the long-running soap, was nothing but complimentary of Mansi’s directing skills in a January interview.

“Kate did an incredible job. She worked so hard. She was such a little bada** director on set,” Wright enthused.

“We’ve had a lot of new directors recently on the set, all trying their turn and their time at daytime and multicamera work. And I have to say, Kate was one of the best.”

She continued, “I think [directing] comes naturally for soap actors… And some of the people who’ve [directed] haven’t been in the soap world.”

“She held her own,” Wright concluded. “And it was great.”

These compliments must come as a relief to Mansi, who plays Kristina on the show.

She had previously revealed Wright was the cast member she was “really intimidated” to direct.

She recalls a conversation with executive producer Frank Valenti, telling him, “‘Please, the only person I don’t want to direct is Laura Wright.’ He was like, ‘Why? She’s amazing.’ And yes, she’s amazing as a human and friend and actor, but I was really intimidated to direct her.”

However, she says Wright “really allowed me to be bold with my choices, which was so awesome.”

Mansi Uses Personal Experience For Directing

During the March 16 episode, Molly tells Cody how her endometriosis diagnosis will affect their relationship.

The storyline is especially poignant for Mansi, who was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2015.

“I was just so moved, as was my family, to see that Frank really took the care that the storyline deserves,” she said. “And then beyond that, when he called me to tell me I was directing, I just was so honored.”

“Part of the reason I took this job as Kristina was because Frank said there was a storyline surrounding endometriosis.”

“That was the first time in my life I’ve ever read in any script that there was a character with endometriosis… the fact that they have continued to want to honor that with telling more intricate stories about endometriosis is incredible.”

The episode airs during Endometriosis Awareness Month.
