Fans Speculate On Sofia Mattsson’s New Role
The Instagram post shows Mattsson posing in front of a dressing room door, featuring her name and the iconic “Days of Our Lives” logo. The caption reads, “Sofia Mattsson is making her way to Salem early next year!”
Fans have plenty of time to speculate on Mattsson’s new role, before her expected “Days of Our Lives” debut in 2027.
Fans already have some ideas on who Mattsson could portray on “Days of Our Lives,” reports EW. It’s been suggested she could be playing Abigail Devereaux, a beloved character killed off in 2023. Devereaux was previously played by Marci Miller, who earned three Emmy nominations for the role.
Others have noted that the announcement comes just days after Arianna Horton (Marissa Heyes)’s departure. Could she be making a return?
Mattsson is not the first “General Hospital” actor to make the move to “Days Of Our Lives,” notes Soap Opera Digest. Cast members Genie Francis, Tamara Braun, Greg Vaughn and Tyler Christopher also joined after their “General Hospital” roles.
What Happened To Mattsson’s “General Hospital” Character?
GettyMattson joined the cast of “General Hospital” in 2018, as the character of Sasha Gilmore.
Sasha had been paid by Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) to pose as the long lost daughter of Nina (Michelle Stafford). Mattsson had plenty of dramatic storylines with Sasha, including the death of her husband and son, the reveal that she and Cody (Josh Kelly) were first cousins, and the news that she was the secret daughter of Holly (Emma Samms) and Robert (Tristan Rogers).
Sasha eventually left the show, after moving overseas with her baby daughter Daisy.
In an Instagram post, Mattson shared the news with fans, posting, “Yes, it’s true, Sasha Gilmore has left Port Charles!”
“I hope Sasha will make her way back to her friends and family, but for now it’s time for her to take a break from all the drama,” she wrote.
She also alluded to continuing her acting journey in “some new exciting projects.”
Mattsson told TV Insider, “I’ve had such a great time, but I’m also excited for a new chapter.”
She reflected fondly on her time on the show, saying, “From the start, Iโve seen every day as a challenge and opportunity to grow as an actress, and honestly, that mindset never stopped โ I feel like I learned something new every day until the end!”
