“General Hospital” has found gold again with the unexpected pairing of Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) and Carly (Laura Wright). They were a duo that no one saw coming, not even Stuart.
James Patrick Stuart Address Valentin and Carly Pairing
The actor has had many female leading ladies during his time on the ABC soap. However, Stuart never expected Valentin to catch feelings for Carly and vice versa.
During an appearance on the “That’s Awesome With Steve & Bradford” podcast with his co-stars Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), Suart admitted he was very surprised that the show put Carly and Valentin together.
“It’s one of those things where, ‘Who would have thought?’” he expressed, admitting that it was something he never would have thought of. After all, Valentin has been so laser-focused on his love for Anna (Finola Hughes), Stuart didn’t expect another love complication in his alter ego’s life.
Stuart admitted Valentin can’t love someone in a “legitimate way.” However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t developing real feelings for Carly. It just means it may not be true love.
“He certainly gets fascinated. And I think that Carly, she surprises the hell out of him by being something that he actually kind of related to more than he thought he was going to. And that’s kind of where we’re at now, is that he would probably be more inclined to just cut and run if he wasn’t strangely obsessed with the woman downstairs,” the soap star shared.
Despite Carly and Valentin’s growing attraction, they have decided to stay focused on what brought them together in the first place: taking down Jack (Chris McKenna) and Sidwell (Carlo Rotta). “General Hospital” fans and Stuart know that won’t last long.
The actor spilled that Valentin is trying to figure out what sleeping with Carly means to him, as she continues to hide him and they work on the task at hand. It won’t be easy, but Stuart hints fans will enjoy the ride.
Working With Soap Fan Favorite Laura Wright
Stuart also took time to speak about working with Wright more frequently than he had in the past.
Carly and Valentin would cross paths and are connected through his daughter Charlotte (Blusey Burke). They never interacted much, though, until Carly reached out to Valentin for help getting Joss (Eden McCoy) out of the WSB.
The actor couldn’t love working with the actress more and spoke about how she constantly impressed him, especially during filming Valentin and Carly’s love scene.
“It was just two people kissing each other. And I give her all the credit because I think the temptation is to just show everything and to do everything. She was like, ‘I think that we can be a little more thoughtful than that,” Stuart expressed.
Spoilers for the ABC soap tease that things are just getting started between Valentin and Carly. They are in for a wild ride, especially when Jack finds out they have been playing him.
