As fans prepare for the highly anticipated “Survivor 50” finale, one of the franchise’s most legendary players is reflecting on the reality competition series that changed his life forever.

In an exclusive Q&A with Entertainment Now, Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano opened up about his enduring connection to “Survivor,” how fatherhood has changed his outlook on adventure, and why he feels grateful that fans continue to embrace his “Survivor” legacy more than two decades later.

Over the years, Mariano has become one of the most recognizable figures in reality television history thanks to appearances on shows like “Survivor,” “The Amazing Race,” and “The Traitors.”

According to the reality star, viewers connected with his unapologetically competitive approach to the game, which helped him build a loyal fanbase.

“I think people connected with the fact that I always played hard and stayed true to who I was,” Mariano explained. “Whether people loved me or loved rooting against me, they knew I was giving it everything I had.”

Mariano also reflected on the lasting impact “Survivor” has had on his life. It was during “Survivor: All-Stars” that Mariano met fellow contestant and future wife Amber Brkich. The couple later married and now share four daughters.

“Survivor completely changed the course of my life,” he told Entertainment Now. “I went into the game as a competitive guy looking for an adventure, and it ended up giving me lifelong friendships, unforgettable experiences, and most importantly, my family.”

Now a devoted husband and father, Mariano said his perspective on competition has evolved significantly since his early reality TV days. “When I was younger, competition was all about proving myself and pushing limits,” he shared. “Now it’s become a lot more about the experiences I get to share with my family.”

Even so, Mariano admits adventure still remains an important part of his life.

“I still get my adrenaline rushes and competition fix, but those are typically on trips taken with my buddies like Dylan Efron.

Boston Rob Opens Up About Family Life, Travel & Recent Dramamine Partnership

This month, Mariano partnered with Dramamine for its “Your Why. Your Way.” campaign, which encourages travelers to focus on meaningful experiences rather than letting obstacles like motion sickness get in the way of adventure — something he admitted he has dealt with personally.

“For me, the most memorable trips are the ones where you come back with stories you’ll talk about for years,” Mariano shared. “That’s why when Dramamine approached me about working together, it felt natural for me because I’ve been known to suffer from nausea.”

The longtime reality star added that the campaign’s message closely aligns with how he approaches travel and life at this stage in his career.

“To me, purpose-driven travel is about finding the ‘why’ in the experiences you want to have,” he explained. “The trips that mean the most are the ones where there’s a real connection behind why you’re going in the first place.”

Looking back on more than two decades in reality television, Mariano said the same philosophy has shaped the way he approaches competition and life.

“More than anything, I hope people remember that I always gave it everything I had and stayed authentic. I never wanted to play it safe or hold back,” he shared. “Whether I won or lost, I wanted people to know I was fully invested every single time I stepped into one of these games.”
