The “Survivor 50” finale will take place tonight on CBS. As we get ready to say goodbye to one season, we are waiting to welcome another. “Survivor 51” is expected to air in fall 2026. Although the official date has not yet been announced, the Season 51 premiere is expected around September. Check out everything we know about the upcoming season in our “Survivor” spoilers.
Early ‘Survivor 51’ Spoilers
CBS has confirmed that “Survivor 51” will air this fall on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET. Episodes will again be 90 minutes long with a new season of “The Amazing Race” airing afterwards.
Per usual for this New Era, the show was filmed in the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji. Filming for Season 51 actually wrapped up on May 13.
According to rumors, there will be 20 castaways competing during this new season. In a big shift, it appears the castaways will start the season competing in a two-tribe format, with 10 castaways competing on each tribe.
This is a huge shift back to the old school format. We haven’t seen a two-tribe format since Season 40’s “Winners at War.” With the New Era, we have been seeing 18 castaways divided into three tribes to start the season.
Who Will Be Cast in ‘Survivor 51’?
While we are still waiting to find out the winner of “Survivor 50” tonight, we do already have rumors about castaways on Season 51.
CBS has not released any details about the new cast, but longtime “Survivor” insider Redmond (or better known as “Inside Survivor”) has given out some details. He has revealed the identities of the first 11 brand new castaways for this new season.
They will all be competing to be named Sole Survivor and win the $1 million prize. Some of the castaways for this new season include a personal trainer, a Canadian actress, a criminal defense attorney, and the first-ever Irish castaway in “Survivor” history.
We will share more details and images as the cast is revealed by CBS. In addition, we typically get a first-look trailer during tonight’s finale, so we will add that into this post when available.
A Returning Player to ‘Survivor 51’?
Early rumors for “Survivor” Season 51 state it’s going to be a two-tribe format. There will be a total of 20 castaways competing. However, Redmond’s incomplete cast list contains 21 total slots, which has fans in an uproar.
Host Jeff Probst has stated that a returning-players season could come “sooner” than expected. While it’s not a full cast of returning players, many fans are speculating that this 21st castaway could be fan favorite Rupert Boneham.
You see, many were upset that he didn’t take part in Season 50. Now, rumors are flying around that he is competing on Season 51 after a recent Facebook post by his wife and fellow “Survivor” alum, Laura Boneham.
In the post, it’s a photo of what appears to be Rupert holding onto plane tickets from Panama City back to the United States. Laura captioned the photo, “So happy he is back home. He is still quite capable at 62… my badass honey can’t wait till fall.”
The post also included a palm tree emoji. So, that, along with the mention of fall, got fans thinking Rupert would be coming back to compete on “Survivor” for the fifth time. It definitely would make fans happy, especially since not seeing him this season.
However, it would throw off the dynamics for a two-tribe format. Speculation started that it could be that one player is voted off as soon as the competition begins without ever being assigned a tribe, like Jonathan Libby and Wanda Shirk on “Survivor: Palau.”
For now, we wait for CBS to reveal more details as it gets close to the new season. “Survivor” Season 51 will premiere this fall on CBS.
