It is not unusual for some “Survivor” players to have regrets following their elimination from the reality series. Whether it is a mistake they made during gameplay or an error of judgement when dealing with the social side of the show, there’s plenty of ways that a castaway can do something wrong and pay the ultimate price.
Things are no different when it comes to “Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans.” Following his elimination, Charlie Davis has explained how he was blindsided by his elimination from the anniversary edition of the series and isn’t sure whether his tribe deliberately chose to lose a challenge in order to vote him out.
Charlie Davis Explains Why He Can’t Tell If His Tribe Threw A Challenge to Eliminate Him
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly during an exit interview after his departure from the show, Davis explained that he isn’t 110% sure if his teammates purposely threw the challenge in order to vote him out.
Although he feels that everyone was trying hard to win the challenge, the situation is complicated by the fact that some of his fellow tribe members had previously discussed losing a challenge in order to be able to eliminate Rizo Velovic.
When asked if his tribe members had thrown the challenge, he said, “So I actually don’t know. And it’s funny that it wasn’t really shown, but I had a conversation with Jonathan where he sort of alluded to the fact that maybe we should throw the challenge to get Rizo out.”
Davis continued, “That was the morning of the challenge when Rick had just been like, ‘Oh, Rizo’s targeting Charlie.’ So we had a conversation, but as far as I know, neither of us actually… Like, we were trying pretty hard on that challenge. But I did hear later on that potentially they tried to and they maybe thought about throwing it to get me out. So I don’t know. You’ll have to ask them.”
He also revealed that he was taken by surprise at Tribal Council when his name was read out by his teammates.
“So I knew Rizo was coming after me,” he explained. “So that was not a surprise, I guess, but I did not expect or think at all that Dee and Kamilla had flipped. That was the main piece there, which really surprised me. And I think in the moment I even, went to Dee and was like, ‘This was you?’ I said something to that effect.”
Charlie Davis Reacts to Being Called ‘Dumbest Player’
During the Tribal Council where he was voted out of the series, Dee Valladares made negative comments about him. She exclaimed, “I actually thought Charlie was the most dangerous player here, but I actually think he’s the dumbest player here.”
During the same interview, Davis was asked about how he felt about those comments and how he reacted after hearing them.
“I mean, not, not great,” he explained. “It wasn’t super-fun to hear. What I’ll say is I think Dee and I were playing very different games, and I hoped and thought all along that I was working with Dee and thought that I would continue to work with Dee.”
He added, “I considered her a really tight ally out there. And probably a little bit of a blind spot, because I knew her outside the game before the game. So I just didn’t really have it in my mind to target her at all. But I think when we were actually out there, we just didn’t sync up that much.”
He concluded, “It was not super-fun to have Dee be like ‘the dumbest player out here.’ But honestly, I’m grateful to be part of the season. And I don’t hold any grudges or anything.”
