How Many Double-Eliminations will ‘Survivor 50’ Have?

While fans and former players alike have spent the better part of the last year hyping up the record-breaking cast of “Survivor 50,” the sheer volume of returning players poses a difficult issue for the show’s producers when it comes to formatting eliminations.

On the three-hour premiere episode of the milestone season, two players left the game, with Jenna Lewis-Dougherty being voted out at the first Tribal Council, and Kyle Fraser being medically evacuated from the game shortly thereafter. On the second episode, however, only one player was eliminated, in the form of recent “Survivor 49” champion Savannah Louie

That leaves 21 players left in the competition. Assuming that CBS sticks to its tried and true 13-episode format for the season – which it appears they will, given that the installment’s live finale taping is scheduled for May 20, 2026 – it leaves the network with just 11 remaining episodes to eliminate as many as 20 contestants.

The only feasible way this can be accomplished is by implementing double eliminations on certain episodes. While the “twofers” are common enough in the “New Era” of “Survivor,” we’re not just talking about a double boot in the premiere and at the Merge. Instead, nearly half of Season 50’s episodes will have to feature double eliminations in order to enter the finale episode with the typical Final Five.

‘Survivor 50’ Will Have (at Least) 5 Double-Elimination Episodes

In order for “Survivor 50” to enter the finale with a standard Final Five, at least five of the season’s remaining 11 episodes will have to feature double eliminations. While details surrounding exactly when these episodes will take place remains a mystery, we can assume (based on precedent) that likely installments will include the Merge episode and the drop from a Final 8 to a Final 6.

These rapid fire eliminations are necessary for the show’s 13-episode format, however. If they continued to only eliminate one player per episode following Savannah Louie on Episode 2, a staggering 11 castaways would be left in the competition by the time the finale episode airs in May.

Fans Think Season 50 Could Feature First-Ever Triple Elimination

The currently-airing season’s mystery format has been hotly debated on Reddit, with one user speculating the possibility of the show’s first-ever triple elimination episode.

“We’re gonna get multiple double boot episodes pre-merge, likely at least 1 or 2 post-merge as well,” speculated Reddit user NedthePhoenix on the r/survivor subreddit. “If they’re sticking with 3 tribes too, it also wouldn;t surprise me if we had an episode where all 3 go to Tribal.”

Of course, the possibility of a triple boot is pure speculation, though it’s certainly feasible – especially on a season where “ruthlessness” is the name of the game.
