“Survivor” has undergone numerous changes over the years as the format has been continually updated to help it feel fresh. Yet, not all of those changes have always been positively received. In an exclusive piece for Entertainment Weekly, the cast of season 49 has given their surprising opinions on the “Survivor” series, including what they think should be ditched and mechanics that no longer work.
‘Survivor’ 49 Cast Share Their Opinions
Speaking to the outlet before filming began, 18 of the cast from the latest season of the show shared their hot takes. For example, Jason Treul expressed his view that immunity idols are overrated while advantages are underrated. Meanwhile, Savannah Louie wants the producers to try and create more romantic opportunities.
“Cast more people likely to get in a showmance,” she wrote. “Love is the only way to beat logic and smarties.”
Kristina Mills is of the opinion that super idols need to be brought back into the game and Alex Moore stated that the Margarita Curse is “fake news.” This is a fan theory that suggests those who win a margarita at the “Survivor” auction often face an almost immediate exit from the show.
On the other hand, Jeremiah Ing wrote that he would like the show to “bring back the loved one visit,” and Nicole Mazullo revealed that she doesn’t believe any losing player is hard done by. She explained, “There is no such thing as a player that ‘should have won.’ It’s all about jury management.”
Some of the other hot takes included Jake Latimer saying, “Sam should have won S47,” and Sophie Segreti arguing for a change in how tribes that don’t win challenges are punished. She wrote, “Stop handicapping losing tribes by taking their flint!”
Season 49 Has Already Shocked Fans
Outside of the hot takes provided by the contestants, the current season of “Survivor” has already proved shocking for fans. Jake Latimer had to be medically evacuated from Fiji after an unprecedented snake bite. Fortunately, the snake bite was dry and he was able to recover at home, which also meant he was able to witness the birth of his first child.
Jeremiah Ing also attempted to make “Survivor” history during the third episode. With his tribe being reduced to just three members following Jake’s evacuation, the Kele tribe lost a third consecutive immunity challenge. In a last-ditch effort to remain part of the show, Ing tried to force a 1-1-1 three-way tie, something that has never occurred in the series’ history.
