‘Survivor 49’s Jeremiah Ing Wanted to Make Tribal Council History Ahead of His Elimination

From getting hit by a car days before flying to Fiji to film “Survivor 49,” to eating worms at camp and attending three back-to-back Tribal Council ceremonies, 39-year-old events manager Jeremiah Ing had plenty of iconic moments ahead of his elimination in the season’s third episode on Wednesday (Oct 8). While Jeremiah’s boot was somewhat overshadowed by the “unprecedented” medical emergency that pulled his Kele tribe mate Jake Latimer from the game in the same episode, the castaway has since revealed that he hoped to make “Survivor” history during his final Tribal Council appearance.

Following Jake’s medical evacuation after sustaining a potentially life-threatening bite from a venomous banded sea krait, the “disaster” Kele tribe was left with just three remaining members – Jeremiah, Alex Moore and Sophi Balerdi – heading into Episode 3’s immunity challenge. However, after six days without flint, little to no food, and emotionally wrecked after Jake’s elimination, the Kele tribe once again failed to beat either the Hina or Uli tribe in the challenge, earning the trio their third consecutive date with longtime host Jeff Probst at Tribal Council.

Jeremiah Wanted to Force ‘Survivor’s First-Ever 1-1-1 Tie Vote

Before heading out, Jeremiah recalled thinking that there was a chance he could make “Survivor” history by forcing a 1-1-1 tie vote between his remaining tribe mates and potentially avoid elimination.

“I knew Sophi had flipped on me because there was a time when Sophi and I were talking and she asked me what Alex said. And I’m like, ‘That’s interesting. You flipped on me,’” Ing told The Post in an exit interview. “And I didn’t know where Alex’s mind was at. So I thought Alex was voting for Sophi, and I was voting for Alex. So I thought it was going to be a three way tie among the three of us.”

While three-way tie votes have happened before on “Survivor,” it’s never been the case when there are only three players left on a tribe. More often, these kinds of tie votes are the result of a split vote, leading to a 3-3-3 vote on a tribe of nine, or a 2-2-2 vote on a tribe of six. In these cases, a revote would take place, with the players who received votes left unable to vote themselves. In the case of an unprecedented 1-1-1 vote, however, it’s unclear what would happen.

“Maybe that was just my delirious mindset of like everything that I was going through,” Ing continued. “But that’s what I thought.”

Jeremiah Reveals Why He Didn’t Play His Shot in the Dark

“I really did consider playing my Shot in the Dark,” he added. “But I was scared because if I lost my vote and it was a tie, then I would have gone home automatically. So I went into that tribal council knowing that there was like a 50 percent chance of me going home.”
