The cast of “Survivor” shared their hot takes on the franchise in an exclusive for Entertainment Weekly. Editorial director Dalton Ross posted the cast’s hot takes on his Instagram, and former contestants of the CBS show took to the comment section to react and give their own opinions.
‘There’s No Such Thing as an Honest Game’
The “Survivor 49” cast had some scorching takes on the franchise, including Sage Ahrens-Nichols who wrote, “there’s no such thing as an ‘honest’ game.”
Other takes include, Jason Treul, who claimed, “idols = overrated” and “advantages = super duper underrated.”
Rizo Velovic said, “the best player does not always win,” which is in stark contrast to Sophi Balerdi, who wrote, “whoever wins deserves it.”
Steven Ramm stated, “contestants should not be forced to risk their vote – it should always be a choice.”
Michelle “MC” Chukwujekwu came in hot with the claim that, “new era > old era,” which was a take that had fans going back and forth in the comment section.
Matt Williams wrote, “Chris Underwood deserved the win!”
Two opinions that got the most response from former cast members and fans alike were Jake Latimer, who claimed, “Sam should of won S47!!!” and the following take from Nicole Mazullo who was essentially responding to Latimer with, “there is no such thing as a player that ‘should have won’ – it’s all about jury management.”
Mazullo also made sure to emphasize “should have” in a playful response to Latimer’s grammatically incorrect phrasing.
What Did Former Contestants Think of This?
Winner of “Survivor 47,” Rachel LaMont responded to Latimer’s take with a comment that read, “Krait should of bit harder!!!” also riffing off of his grammatical mistake. This is a hilarious but fun-loving response that references episode 3 of this season when Latimer was unexpectedly airlifted out of Fiji and pulled from the game after a venomous snake latched on to his foot.
On the other hand, Sam Phalen from “Survivor 47” was pleased with Latimer’s opinion, replying, “@jakelatimer66 my guy!!!” in praise.
Kamilla Karthigesu from “Survivor 48” pointed out the order of Latimer and Mazullo’s takes, “omg the ordering of @nicole.mazullo right after @jakelatimer66 is 10/10.” Mazullo agreed, commenting, “@kamillaa_k actually hysterical 😂🥹.”
Natalie Anderson, winner of “Survivor 29” and runner up for “Survivor 40” didn’t seem to agree with the cast’s takes, responding “Ehhhhhh.” Anderson didn’t clarify which take she was referring to, so it seems to be a teasing response to all of them.
Eliza Orlins from “Season 9: Vanuatu” and “Season 16: Micronesia” responded, “I take issue with so many of these. But most of all, everyone should know: there is no such thing as ‘should of.'”
Chris Underwood, the “Sole Survivor” of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” responded to Williams’ take with, “Honored 🤝🏼.”
