From Michael Skupin falling into a campfire on “Survivor: The Australian Outback” to Caleb Reynolds collapsing from heat stroke on “Survivor: Kaoh Rong,” medical evacuations – more commonly known as “medevacs” to fans – have tragically cut plenty of castaways’ “Survivor” journeys short over the last 25 years.
Now, fans are convinced that yet another medevac is coming to the currently airing “Survivor 49.” Following the season’s second episode, which aired on Wednesday (Oct 1), CBS offered viewers a sneak peek preview of next week’s installment, teasing that one player might be removed from the game after sustaining a serious snake bite.
Fans Think Jake Latimer Will be Medically Evacuated Next Week
In a synopsis for “Survivor 49” Episode 3, titled “Loveable Losers,” CBS revealed that “an unprecedented medical emergency” will leave the castaways “shaken.”
While the recently published synopsis doesn’t offer much in the way of details, the promo for the upcoming episode, set to air on Wednesday, October 8 at 8:00pm ET, seemingly reveals that castaway Jake Latimer could potentially become the latest “Survivor” contestant to be medically evacuated from the game.
CBSIn the promo trailer, Jake, a 36-year-old correctional officer from Alberta, Canada, can be seen looking concerned while sitting on the beach before returning to camp to inform his Kele tribemates that “a big snake just latched on me.”
The teaser then cuts to an interview with 27-year-old political communications director Alex Moore, who reports, “This is a highly venomous snake,” before adding, “I’m worried about [Jake’s] life at this point.”
Though Alex doesn’t confirm the exact kind of snake that bit Jake, the trailer does show a banded sea krait swimming through the Fijian waters.
“The banded sea krait is one of the most venemous (but least aggressive) snakes in the world. An actual bite would be a major medical emergency,” wrote “Survivor 42” alum Omar Zaheer on X/Twitter after last week’s episode.
Another fan added that banded sea kraits often deliver dry bites as warnings before unleashing the full potential of their venomous bites.
Will Jake’s Exit Come Before (or After) the Immunity Challenge?
At this point, there is little debate as to whether or not Jake gets bit by a snake, though the severity and timing of the medical emergency remain under speculation.
Some fans believe that Jake’s medevac will come before the tribes gather for the episode’s Immunity Challenge, leaving the Kele Tribe with just three remaining members – Jeremiah Ing, Sophi Segretti and Alex Moore – after the so-called “disaster tribe” voted out tribemates Nicole Mazullo and Annie Davis in back-to-back Tribal Councils.
CBSIn sneak peek photos from Episode 3, fans seemingly confirmed their beliefs after noting that the tribes appear to be competing in groups of three for the Immunity challenge, with Jake noticeably missing from his tribe.
If the rumors prove true, Jake Latimer will become the third person to leave “Survivor 49,” and the first player to be medically evacuated from the series since Randen Montalvo was pulled from the game on “Survivor 46” after sustaining potential nerve damage.
Find out what happens when “Survivor 49” returns on Wednesday, October 8 at 8:00pm ET on CBS.
