George Michael’s Estate Responds to Taylor Swift’s Use of His Song

Taylor Swift is releasing her new album, “The Life of a Show Girl,” on October 3. While fans haven’t heard any of the songs, it is known that it features a track called “Father Figure,” which interpolates the George Michael song of the same name. Now, his estate has reacted to Swift’s use of the classic.

They took to Instagram on October 2 to share their thoughts. They did so by saying, “We were delighted when Taylor Swift and her team approached us earlier this year about incorporating an interpolation of George Michael‘s classic song ‘Father Figure’ into a brand new song of the same title to be featured on her forthcoming album.”

The post continued, “When we heard the track, we had no hesitation in agreeing to this association between two great artists, and we know George would have felt the same.”

They then said, “George Michael Entertainment wishes Taylor every success with The Life of a Showgirl and Father Figure.”

The post includes the caption, “Thank you @taylorswift for including George in such a special moment. Father Figure (Taylor’s Version) is out tomorrow.”

Some Stores are Staying Open Late For Swift’s ‘The Life of a Show Girl’

Nowadays, most music fans opt for either digital downloads or streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple Music. However, some people still prefer to visit physical stores when their favorite artists release new music.

According to USA Today, some Target stores will be open for Swift fans to nab a physical copy of “The Life of a Show Girl” at midnight. The company said, “Swifties, this one’s for you. Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ is already the year’s biggest music moment, and we’re giving fans even more reasons to get excited.”

The press release continued, “From exclusive vinyl and CD editions available only at Target to midnight releases and curated music experiences in our stores, we’re proud to be a destination where fans can discover, connect, and take home something truly special.”

The participating Target stores will remain open until 1 a.m. local time. Starting at 10 p.m., the stores will hand out physical or digital tickets. These will reserve the album. Interested Swift fans can then begin lining up to purchase the album at 11:45. Each guest is allowed to buy up to four Swift items.

It’s worth noting that Target is selling exclusive versions and bundles of “The Life of a Show Girl.”

She Also Has a Movie Releasing

In true Swift fashion, she’s dominating multiple facets of the entertainment industry. Not only is she releasing an album, but the “Father Figure” singer is also releasing a movie. Also called “The Life of a Show Girl,” the film will feature a music video, behind-the-scenes footage, and more.

The movie will play in theaters from October 3 to 5. According to Variety, the film is expected to open at number one at the box office with $35 million.
