Week 5 Begins

The celebration has begun, as Robin kicks things off tonight. He is singing “Living In America” by James Brown. A fun start to the night, with the backup dancers and all. For tonight’s birthday celebration, we will have Eggplant, Calla Lily, High Voltage, and Owl performing. We will also have the final wild card of the season performing.

High Voltage on ‘The Masked Singer’

For his clues, we see him at an RV at a campground. He said his dad immigrated to the United States with a passion for science. His dad then met his mom, a poet, and the rest is history. We see two gingerbread cookies as his mom and dad. He said growing up, he lived the American dream: slurpees in the summer, Van Halen on repeat, and MTV on full blast. High Voltage talked about being in the backyard, spit-roasting a goat for a cookout. We see a man holding an ice cream cone, which is melting everywhere. He said he would go on to become a national icon, as the RV has an “On Air” sign in the window. He’s got a “22 V” on the front of his costume, which Rita said the “V” wasn’t there before.

For his performance, he sings “Miles On It” by Kane Brown and Marshmello. This is a fun song and a fun performance. There isn’t much singing, but he’s getting the crowd into it. He’s a hype man, for sure.

For tonight’s special clue, an eagle will be delivering them. High Voltage’s clue is a guitar, which he said he’s had by his side since he was 13. He said it reminds him that your greatest comes from finding your rhythm and sticking with it.

Panel Feedback

Robin said he thinks he just blew a couple of breakers. That was definitely high voltage. Jenny said when she saw the “On Air” sign, it made her think of late night talk show host. She thought of the guitar and comedy, then the ice cream, as this guy has his own Ben & Jerry’s flavor. She thinks it’s Jimmy Fallon.

Robin said he’s not getting that from the voice cadence. The gingerbread man makes him think of a ginger, so he is going with Conan O’Brien. Ken said that based on the clue package, the goats and two different cultures. He thinks he could be Greek, so he thinks it’s John Stamos.

Calla Lily

Calla Lily is at a barbecue. She says she wants to talk about an American legend who was so much more to her. We see her place some “fun gummy bears” in front of the picture of this legend. She said his main focus was to make her life normal. Cally Lily said this man was strict and even grounded her for being late to dinner, which Madonna and Sean Penn were at that dinner table. She said she resented him for not making her life easier, and there were years when they were distant. She then stopped asking for handouts and instead started asking for his wisdom. That is when their relationship changed, and then we see her set off fireworks.

For her performance, she sings “Jack & Diane” by John Mellencamp. Yeah, some of these contestants on “The Masked Singer” season 14 can sing, but Calla Lily seems to just be standing up there for this one. No feelings coming out on this one.

For her special clue, the eagle brings out a diamond-shaped key. She said this has unlocked countless doors for her and reminds her to step boldly into what comes next.

Panel Feedback

Jenny said how beautifully she has blossomed since the last time we saw her. She rose to the occasion today and is so proud of herself. Robin said we saw the director before, and he’s thinking of other females who have had health issues, so he thinks of Danielle Fishel from “Boy Meets World.”

Rita said her gut is still telling her this is Selma Blair. The gummy bears made her think of the movie, “The Sweetest Thing.” Jenny said that the last clue of a key and a diamond sounds like a Beverly Hills housewife to her. She thinks it’s Teddi Mellencamp based on the teddy bears and the cougar on a person’s shirt in the clues.

Eggplant on ‘The Masked Singer’

For the clues, we see Eggplant at a recording studio. He said life comes at you fast, especially while in the land of opportunity. He said he crashed the recording of “We Are the World.” Eggplant said he got the personal invite from Quincy Jones, as the camera then pans in on a “Life Is Beautiful” sign. He said he was now hanging out with 45 of the biggest names in music. Eggplant has topped the charts himself, but he was still starstruck. Michael Jackson told him he loved his album. We then see Eggplant holding a golf club and coffee.

For his performance, he sings “American Woman” by Lenny Kravitz. He’s definitely having fun up there. He was singing and performing, and this was a fun one.

The eagle is back, and he brings out a big bottle of “Hot 100” sauce. Eggplant said some people have said his success has been hot, hot, hot, and this bottle says it best.

Panel Feedback

Ken said he thinks we are in the presence of greatness. This may be the biggest singer of all time on “The Masked Singer.” Ken says it’s Billy Joel. Jenny said she would shave her head bald if that’s Billy Joel.

Jenny said the “Life Is Beautiful” clue reminded her of the song “Life Is Too Short.” We had his partner, John Oates, here before, so she thinks it could be Darryl Hall. Robin said he didn’t get Darryl Hall, but he was thinking of people who went to “We Are The World” and thinking of Kenny Loggins.

Owl

For his clues, we are at a baseball stadium. He said he loves America’s pastime more than anyone, but he is no pro. Back in the day, he was a scrappy, right-handed slugger. We then see a picture of Elvis Presley on the Jumbotron. He said one day, his heart was telling him something, and this wasn’t his path, as two jets flew over and made an “X” in the sky. Owl turned in his glove, as he knew there were other fields for him, and he soared to success. He said he tells his kids to follow their hearts. NO matter the field, you’ll always hit a grand slam, which makes the Jumbotron now, and we see a hot dog firework in the sky.

For his performance, he sings “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers. He definitely has that deep, raspy voice. Definitely sounds like we could have an older gentleman under this mask.

For his clue, the eagle brings out a big gold bowl with “Super” written on it. He said he was super excited when he got to play a part in one of America’s biggest events. Millions of eyes were glued to his every move.

Panel Feedback

Rita said he just landed that flight right on the stage like a true professional. Ken said this is Matthew McCaughney. He said he guessed it last time, and he’s guessing it tonight. Listen to the cadence. He had a Super Bowl commercial and played baseball in “Angels in the Outfield.”

Rita said the “X” in the sky made her think of “Fast & Furious.” He starred in that movie, but she thinks it’s Kurt Russell, which Ken said Kurt played Elvis in a TV movie. Jenny said the last time he had a big bowl of popcorn and tonight we saw the hot dog. She said it reminded her of the van in “Dumb and Dumber” with the dog. Jenny thinks it could be Jeff Daniels.

The Final Wild Card on ‘The Masked Singer’

The final wild card of the season is Pangolin, who comes out to “Maneater.” For her clues, we see a football game going on at a high school. She said that where she comes from is rich with American history. They all speak the same language: sports. Her family was really into it, as we see a “No Glass” sign. We see a high school band playing, and an astronaut is part of the band. She told her high school boyfriend she wanted to do that, but he said it would never happen. She said she dumped him and became the halftime queen. Her sports-obsessed roots fueled her competitive fire.

For her performance, she sings “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette. This is another one of those voices that just sounds like a familiar person. She has a good voice, and it sounds good on this song. She has a strong stage presence.

For her clue, the eagle brings an envelope, which they open up, and “Winner” is written inside. Pangolin said her first big win was more than a dream come true. It was proof that passion and hard work can really pay off.

Panel Feedback

Robin said such a beautiful tone, and so much control. This is one of our frontrunners. Rita said she is confused. Rita said she has a song called “Gravity,” which works for the astronaut. She wrote a musical called “Waitress” and won many awards for it. She thinks it could be Sara Bareilles.

Jenny said the “No Glass” and her voice, so she was thinking “Jar of Hearts” and Christina Perri. Rita said she did a show with her before, and it does sound like her. Ken said he did a show with someone at the Teen Choice Awards, who is a huge star. He thinks it’s Katy Perry.

Results on ‘The Masked Singer’ Season 14

The audience and panelists have all voted for their favorite performer of the night. The five masks return to the stage, and it’s time for Nick Cannon to reveal the results. The singer being unmasked tonight is Calla Lily.

Final guesses from the panel: Rita sticks with Selma Blair. Ken thinks it’s Christina Applegate. Robin sticks with Danielle Fishel. Jenny sticks with Teddi Mellencamp.

The unmasking finally happens, and under the Calla Lily mask is Teddi Mellencamp, podcaster and former star of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” Jenny was right!

What do you think of the results tonight on “The Masked Singer” season 14?
