“Our thoughts today are with The Duke of Kent and his family, particularly George, Helen and Nicholas,” they wrote. “The Duchess worked tirelessly to help others and supported many causes, including through her love of music. She will be a much missed member of the family.”
The note was signed simply with their initials, “W & C.”

She was also candid about personal loss, speaking openly about a miscarriage and the stillbirth of her son, which she described as devastating but ultimately gave her greater empathy for others.
In 1996, she stepped back from royal duties and spent a decade teaching music at a primary school in Hull. Although she opted to live more privately, she continued to attend select royal family events, such as Trooping the Colour.
Buckingham Palace Confirms Her Passing
Buckingham Palace confirmed her death in a statement released September 5. “Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family,” the message read.
“The King and Queen and all Members of The Royal Family join The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss and remembering fondly The Duchess’s life-long devotion to all the organizations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.”
Katharine, Duchess of Kent, is remembered for her kindness, her lifelong dedication to service, and her love of music, which touched many lives.
