Sara Haines is opening up about the emotional toll surrounding the ongoing search for Savannah Guthrie’s mother, offering a heartfelt perspective as the situation stretches beyond a month with no resolution.
Speaking with Page Six on Wednesday, March 18, Haines addressed whether the frightening circumstances have sparked safety concerns among her and her fellow “The View” co-hosts.
“Any concerns I have are not new,” she said, acknowledging that personal safety is something many people think about regularly.
Still, she made it clear that her focus isn’t on fear — it’s on empathy.
“For anyone thinking about their place in the world, it’s always a concern,” Haines continued, before emphasizing that the current moment feels too raw to analyze in a broader sense. “I think with Savannah, we’re still too in it to assess it.”
For now, colleagues like Haines are focused on supporting Guthrie from afar and hoping for answers. “I want some peace for Savannah, her husband, her kids, her siblings — all of them,” she added.
Haines Used to Work With Guthrie
From 2009 to 2013, Haines was on the “Today” show, with Savannah becoming a co-anchor in 2012.
“Having worked with Savannah, I can’t get past her part and her mom’s part to even think about my life, myself [and] how it affects the greater world,” Haines said of Savannah. “I’m so single-focused on being brought to my knees in pain from a distance watching this.”
Behind the scenes, the situation has also prompted action at the network level.
Out of what sources describe as an “abundance of caution,” NBC reportedly increased security measures at its New York City studios right after Nancy’s disappearance, according to Page Six.
This includes a heightened police presence and additional protections for on-air talent.
“Things are tense at the studio,” a source shared, noting that the decision was made to ensure staff feel safe amid the ongoing investigation.
Nancy Was Last Seen at the End of January
At the center of the search is Nancy Guthrie, who was last seen at her home in the Tucson area on January 31.
Authorities later determined she had been taken against her will, prompting an urgent and ongoing investigation.
Since then, Guthrie has stepped away from her role on “Today,” instead using social media to share heartbreaking videos as the search for Nancy continues.
The absence has been deeply felt by viewers, but Haines made it clear the priority remains with the family’s well-being — not television.
“I want it solved, I want them to figure something out,” Haines said. “My heart breaks and I have no words for how hard this is to watch.”
