“The View” host Sara Haines has recently learned that she is related to two former U.S. Presidents. The television personality made the discovery while appearing in the genealogy-based series “Finding Your Roots,” where celebrities get the chance to delve into their family history.
According to host Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Haines is a distant relative of both John Adams and John Quincy Adams.
Sara Haines Makes ‘Finding Your Roots’ History
While appearing on the show, Haines discovered that her family history includes both John Adams and John Quincy Adams. That makes her the first person who has appeared on the show who is related to more than one U.S. President.
In a clip shared on social media before the episode airs tonight, Haines is shown a portrait of John Adams and is asked by the host Gates Jr. if she knows who it is.
Haines replies, “He looks like a lot of people in my history book.” Upon finding out that he was the second U.S. President, Gates Jr. then reveals that he is her third cousin, nine times removed through her maternal grandfather.
“Oh my God. I’m related to a president! And he was a good one,” she says in the clip.
Gates Jr. adds, “We only had one other guest in the history of the series who was related to a president, unhappily so, and that was Michael Moore, who was related to Herbert Hoover. You are our first guest, happily related to two United States presidents!”
John Adams was a Founding Father and became the second president of the United States in 1797. Meanwhile, John Quincy Adams was the eldest son of John Adams and ultimately became the eighth president of the United States having been elected to the post in 1825.
‘The View’ Recently Aired Live Without An Audience
In late January, “The View” made its own history when it broadcast live with zero audience. This was the result of the massive snowfall that hit New York City, bringing more than 12 inches of snow.
The sheer amount of snow caused a large number of road closures and public transport was also not functioning as normal, making it difficult for anyone to safely get around the city or make it to the studio in Manhattan.
This meant that the stars of “The View” had to carry on the show without a studio audience. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg was quick to point out that the show didn’t have any audience members in the studio and explained why that was the case.
