The usually private star found himself grilled by one of the hosts about his relationship with Eva Mendes, a topic he tends to keep out of the spotlight. The interaction took an unexpected turn, and Gosling handled the moment with his signature humor, hoping his remarks would get him out of the hot seat.

Ryan Gosling appeared on “The View” to promote his new film, “Project Hail Mary,” alongside directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The actor discussed the project, which is generating a lot of positive buzz, and his portrayal of Ryland Grace.
However, he didn’t expect co-host Ana Navarro to grill him about his marriage to Eva Mendes. The couple is notoriously private about their marriage and family life.
In an Instagram clip, Navarro shared a kinship with Gosling, saying they were both married to Cuban partners. Then, she put his knowledge of Cuban culture to the test.
First, she asked, “What is a croqueta?” He responded, “It’s heaven on a plate.” According to the website A Sassy Spoon, a croqueta is a deep-fried fritter filled with a creamy sauce and ham.
Navarro then asked, “What is picadillo?” Gosling stumbled on his response, stating, “I’m in trouble. I’m freezing. I know this.” In the end, he couldn’t respond, but Lord, who is also of Cuban descent, helped him out, stating the dish contained beef, almonds, raisins, and spices.
When asked, “What is your favorite flavor of Pastelito (a traditional pastry),” Gosling responded, “Guava.”
Navarro joked that Mendes didn’t teach Gosling anything about her culture. But then, the actor redeemed himself.
“We haven’t talked about mojo (a sauce), we haven’t talked about yuca (a root vegetable commonly used in cooking), or Iron Beer vs. Materva,” the actor deadpanned to audience cheers. “Plus, Eva’s mom makes the most amazing arroz con leche (rice pudding).”
On Instagram, Navarro tagged Mendes in the comments section. She joked that Gosling’s answers gave him “a tremendous save at the end.”

The sweet moment took place on Fallon’s stage. A high school marching band played “Happy Birthday” as a shocked Mendes stood in the spotlight. She hugged and kissed Gosling on the cheek, clearly thrilled by the tribute.
