Some of the most talked about moments during the Blind Auditions on “The Voice” take place during those four-chair (currently three-chair) turns by the coaches. When this happens, you know you’ve got a good singer on your hands, and something special just happened on that stage. Over the years, we have seen several contestants earn a four-chair turn, but here are our picks for five of the best in “The Voice” history.
1. Jordan Smith (Season 9)
This one started with a different perspective for the viewers. We were going in blind, like the coaches. Just hearing the voice and not knowing anything else.
Jordan Smith performed “Chandelier” during his Blind Audition on season 9. His vocals are amazing. I mean, they are so good that he used them to take him all the way to a season 9 victory.
2. Alisan Porter (Season 10)
Alisan Porter starred as “Curly Sue” as a child actor. Now, she was all grown up and auditioning for “The Voice” during season 10.
She performed “Blue Bayou” and got all four of the coaches to hit their red buttons for her. She brought a theatrical rendition to the song, but that country twang quickly won over Blake Shelton.
Despite that, Porter chose to join Team Xtina. That was a wise choice, as she also went on to win her season.
3. Javier Colon (Season 1)
Maybe you just have to go on to win the whole season to make this list? That’s not the case, but we have another eventual winner on the list in Javier Colon from season 1.
For his blind audition, he performed a stripped-down version of “Time After Time.” It was a great vocal, and he showed off his skills when that chorus hit. He never let down the entire season, being named the first winner of this new singing competition on NBC.
4. Matthew Schuler (Season 5)
Matthew Schuler may hold the record for the fastest four-chair turn on “The Voice.” The season 5 contestant came out singing “Cough Syrup” by Young the Giant. He barely got started on the song when all four coaches were facing him after hitting their buttons.
Unlike the others mentioned on this list, Schuler didn’t go on to win his season. He did ride the wave all the way to a sixth-place finish.
5. Billy Gilman (Season 11)
Billy Gilman had a lot of 11’s going for him. He appeared on season 11. He was a child singer who had a huge hit, “One Voice,” at 11 years old.
Gilman was now auditioning for “The Voice” and singing some Adele. The country singer nailed it, and he had a fight on his hands with the coaches. He ultimately chose to join Team Adam, with which he remained until he was named the runner-up in season 11.
Who would you include on this list for the best four-chair turns ever on “The Voice”?
