Adam Levine has returned to the red chair on “The Voice,” bringing with him a long history of success on the singing competition.
The Maroon 5 frontman first joined the NBC series as one of its original coaches when “The Voice” debuted in 2011. Over the years, Levine became one of the show’s most recognizable figures and helped several contestants win the competition.
Now appearing on season 29 of “The Voice,” Levine is reflecting on the career milestones that defined his original run and the journey that led to his comeback.
Adam Levine Won ‘The Voice’ 3 Times During His Original Run
Levine’s early years on “The Voice” included several major wins.
In season 1, Levine coached Javier Colon to victory, making Colon the first winner in the history of the show. The win immediately established Levine as a strong competitor among the coaches.
Levine later earned two more championships during his time on the series.
His contestant Tessanne Chin won season 5, followed by Jordan Smith’s victory in season 9. Smith’s powerful performances throughout the season made him one of the most memorable winners in the show’s history.
Levine Stepped Away From ‘The Voice’ in 2019
After appearing on the show for 16 seasons, Levine announced in May 2019 that he would be leaving the series.
“I am truly honored to have been a part of something I’ll always cherish for the rest of my life,” Levine wrote on Instagram at the time. “For me, it was time to move on. What an amazing ride.”
Later that year, Levine explained his decision in an interview on “The Howard Stern Show.”
“This was the right time for me to go,” Levine said. “For eight-and-a-half years, I was so busy. I was beyond fortunate to go through all of it because it was a life-altering experience being on that show.”
Levine also noted that his family played a major role in his decision to step away.
“I got married, I had two kids, and I wanted to spend time with them,” Levine said.
Adam Levine Says Timing Finally Felt Right to Return
Levine returned to the series in February 2025 for season 27. After briefly stepping away again during season 28 to tour with Maroon 5 following the release of the band’s eighth studio album, “Love Is Like,” Levine returned once more for season 29.
He said the timing of the comeback finally made sense.
“I honestly feel like the stars aligned,” Levine told People. “It was one of those moments where we started talking about it, and it felt right … and it hadn’t felt right until now.”
Levine also explained that the time away allowed him to focus on other parts of his life.
“It’s really great to be back, because I had plenty of time to not be on the show,” Levine said. “It was nice to just be with my family and do what I originally intended to do: make music and play music.”
Levine now serves as one of the coaches on season 29 of “The Voice” alongside Kelly Clarkson and John Legend.
New episodes of “The Voice” season 29 air Monday nights on NBC.
