Clarkson first joined the show during Season 14 and quickly became one of the franchise’s most recognizable mentors.

After stepping away following her family’s relocation from California to New York, she briefly returned for Season 23 and later appeared during Season 29, titled “Battle of the Champions.”

Now, Clarkson is set to reclaim her red chair once again for the milestone 30th season.

Why Clarkson Decided to Step Away From Her Talk Show

Clarkson’s return to “The Voice” arrives during a deeply personal new chapter in her life, as the singer continues to reshape her career around family and balance.

Earlier this year, the Grammy winner revealed that “The Kelly Clarkson Show” will end after seven seasons.

Speaking candidly during a February appearance on the “Today” show, Clarkson shared that changes in her family helped guide her through the difficult decision.

“I think everybody probably gets the timing,” she said on the “Today” Show in February.

“Our family life, the dynamic changed a bit, and it has changed for a minute now, so I think … it’s one of those things when you kinda start seeing life with how it is precious, too.”

While stepping away from daytime television was not easy, Clarkson admitted she felt pulled to slow down and be more present for her children.

“I know everybody thinks, ‘Oh, she’s quitting,’ but I still have other jobs. I’m still doing stuff,” she said on Today about leaving her self-titled chat show.

“There’s just too much on the plate. I was like, ‘You know what, It’s time to kinda pull back.’ It’s amazing, that’s what was really hard [because] the crew’s been incredible. … That was a really hard thing for me, but an easy decision as a momma.”

For Clarkson, returning to “The Voice” appears to offer a way to stay connected to music and television while creating more space for the life she wants off camera.

Clarkson’s recent career decisions came during an incredibly emotional period in her personal life.

Her former husband, Brandon Blackstock, died in 2025 following a private battle with cancer, as confirmed by People.

Together, Clarkson and Blackstock shared a daughter, River Rose, 11, and a son, Remington, 9. Blackstock was also father to Savannah, 23, and Seth, 18, from his previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth.

In the months that followed his passing, Clarkson quietly stepped back from both “The Voice” and “The Kelly Clarkson Show” to spend more time with her family and focus on life at home.

When she later confirmed her departure from daytime television, Clarkson spoke openly about wanting to be more present for her children as they navigated a difficult season together.

“You never know where I might show up next,” she said in a statement shared with Us Weekly. “But for now, I want to thank y’all so much for allowing our show to be a part of your lives, and for believing in us and hanging with us for seven incredible years.”

She added, “Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives.”

For many fans, Clarkson’s return to “The Voice” feels especially meaningful now, as the singer continues finding her footing while balancing motherhood, music, and healing after loss.
