Blake Shelton Addresses Why He Missed Wife Gwen Stefani’s Major Milestone

On May 6, 2026, country star Blake Shelton couldn’t attend the opening night of his wife Gwen Stefani’s highly anticipated Las Vegas residency at Sphere with her band, No Doubt.

As previously reported, the couple — who met while working as coaches on “The Voice” — both had big shows on the same night, with Shelton starting a new leg of his own residency up the street at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Shelton addressed the situation during his concert and revealed he might never get to see his wife’s big show.

Blake Shelton Tells His Fans He’s ‘So Glad’ They Attended His Show Instead of No Doubt’s

Shelton, 49, and Stefani, 56, got married in July 2021. During Shelton’s May 6 concert, which began an eight-night extension of his residency at The Colosseum, fans captured video of him talking about missing Stefani’s Sphere debut.

In one video obtained by TMZ, Shelton was seen saying, “My wife came to town? She’s here. I mean, she’s not here. She’s over there. The other venue. What kind of a [expletive] books us on the exact same nights, every single night? I think my manager did that, and he’s here, isn’t he?”

He then muttered, “Sorry, Narvel,” referring to his longtime manager Narvel Blackstock, who’s also Reba McEntire’s ex-husband.

According to Us Weekly, Shelton then further explained to his fans, “My wife, Gwen Stefani — I like to say it out loud, I know it’s kind of douchey — she’s playing tonight over at the Sphere. I’m so glad y’all aren’t there. It’s weird to say, but it’s true.”

Shelton continued, “One of the things that I heard her say on stage was — and I thought to myself, ‘Man, if I ever get to do a residency in Vegas, I’m gonna do that too’ — she got on stage, she goes, ‘We’re in Las Vegas. We can do whatever in the hell we wanna do.’ OK?”

“Don’t tell any authorities that I said that to you,” he quipped, Us Weekly reported. “You’re on your own. But I heard Gwen say that, and then she would sing whatever songs she was gonna sing. It would freak people out.”

Blake Shelton May Get to Catch Wife Gwen Stefani’s Show in June

No Doubt’s residency at Sphere, running through mid-June, marks the band’s first extended run of shows in 14 years, according to USA Today. It’s a big deal for the 90s pop-punk band and its fans, but especially for Stefani, who became the first female artist to headline a show at the venue on May 6.

Stefani and her bandmates announced their residency in October 2025. Shelton announced his extended residency in January. No Doubt will play 18 nights between now and June 13, with tickets available here.

Shelton’s residency, meanwhile, runs through May 24, so it’s likely he could attend a later date. However, he’s playing Nashville’s Nissan Stadium on June 5 for CMA Fest and will be at the Carolina Country Music Fest the following night.

The country star did send his wife a giant bouquet before her Sphere debut. In her Instagram Stories on May 6, Stefani posted a video of a woman pushing a large dolly into her dressing room, which carried two gigantic bouquets, including one Stefani said looked like a “sphere” of pink roses.

When she pulled out the card, Stefani squealed and said, “Okay, I have the best husband!” She showed that it said, “Good Luck Pretty Girl! I love you! Love – Blake”
