The Voice: Nick Jonas Reflects on Healing, New Beginnings After Jonas Brothers Break

Former “The Voice” coach Nick Jonas shared the emotional fallout from the Jonas Brothers breakup, saying that the band needed to “heal” before moving forward.

In an interview with Willie Geist for a “Sunday TODAY” segment, Jonas said that the band’s six-year break was essential. Nick, Kevin, and Joe Jonas reassessed what they wanted out of life, both personally and professionally.

What Did The Jonas Brothers’ Hiatus Do For The Band?

“We’ve had a lot of time to, kind of, heal,” Jonas began. “But it was important for all of us to take that step away from this thing we were doing together for 12 years. Just say, ‘OK. Who are we? And what’s important to us?’”

He concluded, “And eventually, the answer became, ‘Well, I’m a brother who needs his brothers. And who also has the freedom to be an individual in that.’”

But, after years of being known as a band of brothers, Jonas revealed he was longing to find his own voice. The split, which he initiated, allowed each band member to explore their own interests. This included Nick’s solo album and starring roles in the “Jumanji” movie series, Joe’s spinoff group DNCE, and Kevin’s exploration into the home renovation and building business.

Additionally, Jonas shared, “Being clumped into a group, it’s hard to know who you are and to feel like you have a voice of your own. When things started to connect with things like ‘Jealous’ and ‘Chains,’ and those early solo songs, I was relieved because I was like, ‘Oh, I can do this.’”

Will Nick Jonas Return to ‘The Voice?’

Nick Jonas began working on “The Voice” beginning in Season 8, as a Battle Advisor to Christina Aguilera. After a hiatus, he returned to the show as a coach for Seasons 18 and 20.

In Season 28, Jonas returned to the NBC competition series as a Battle Advisor for country superstar Reba McEntire. The two had a long professional history.

In 2001, McEntire starred on Broadway in “Annie, Get Your Gun.” The musical was Jonas’ Broadway debut.

Thus, he told the country superstar, “We worked together some 24 years ago; it was the highlight of my career.” He added that McEntire gave him invaluable life lessons about “life, theater, and how things can go wrong.”

However, there are no plans for Jonas to return to “The Voice” as a coach or Battle Advisor during the show’s newest Season 29.

Currently, Nick, Kevin, and Joe Jonas recently wrapped a stateside concert tour celebrating 20 years in the entertainment industry. They are scheduled to perform two California dates, followed by overseas concerts in 2026.

Nick Jonas is married to Priyanka Chopra Jonas. They have one daughter, Malti Marie.
