Just like the first two seasons, HBO is kicking off a new year with chaos. “The Pitt” Season 3 is coming in January, and the premium cable network has released a teaser to give us a hint at what to expect.
Dr. Robby is back from his sabbatical. Considering the way things ended during “The Pitt” Season 2 and the fears that Robby was thinking of taking his own life, this is certainly a relief to see. After all, there isn’t a series without Noah Wyle! However, his first day back is set to bring complete havoc.
When Will ‘The Pitt’ Season 3 Return?
HBOHBO only shares that “The Pitt” Season 3 will return in January 2027. While there isn’t a set date just yet, this is the same month that both previous seasons arrived, and it looks like HBO is attempting to stick to the more traditional yearly release for this one, which is going to make a lot of fans happy.
The first season premiered on Jan. 9, 2025, and the second season premiered on Jan. 8, 2026. With that in mind, we’re probably looking at a Jan. 7, 2027 premiere date.
As before, “The Pitt” will release weekly on HBO and then stream on HBO Max. It’s slated to run for 15 hours, just like the first two seasons, with each episode covering one hour of a shift during one day of the year. That will take the show into April again.
What to Expect on ‘The Pitt’ Season 3
While there are minimal details as to the overall storylines, the season will take place four months after the second season, which was a July 4 day at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. To be exact, HBO has stated that it will be set on Nov. 12, meaning that it’s a day after Veteran’s Day and in the run-up to Thanksgiving, and that means people are preparing for travel and family gatherings.
There is a teaser, which delivers a few hints at the hell that Robby is about to return back to. The start of the teaser has the doctors noting that Robby is back on the board, but it sounds like nobody is really expecting him to walk through the doors. That’s when he does, and he enters the chaos that he took a sabbatical from. With people bashing their heads on the windows, and a man clearly deeply in grief, Robby is sure to wonder whether it was right to come back.
Just like with the second season, there are some changes to the cast coming. One of those is the new addition of Chris Diamantopoulos as Dr. Asher Grossman, who will be the new chief medical officer at PTMC. This hints that Dr. Gloria Underwood is no longer at the hospital, although there has been no confirmation of this as of yet. Dr. Underwood was seen throughout the first season but only mentioned during Season 2, and that opens the door for a change in leadership at some point.
The season itself is going to be huge for Robby after “doing the work” for his trauma. He told TVLine that the season will focus on Robby having to rethink his instincts. He went into detail, sharing, “Season 1, the doctor is the patient. Season 2, doctors don’t make good patients. Season 3, doctors benefit from being patients.”
Now, it’s just a case of waiting until January. “The Pitt” Seasons 1 and 2 are currently available to stream on HBO Max, and Season 3 will air on HBO and the streaming platform.
