Elizabeth tries her best to lift up LJ’s spirits after he injured his elbow while playing outside in the previous episode. Nathan walks into Elizabeth’s home to snag items for the Harvest Festival. He asks Elizabeth if she will join him for dinner later.

Minnie and Joseph’s daughter, Angela, comes to visit her family after hearing they could use some cheering up from Cooper’s wildfire accusations.

Elizabeth has one of her last classes with her Hope Valley and Benson Hills students, where she teaches them about “cornucopias.” The Benson Hills students express how they don’t want to go back home, including Gwendolyn, who says her life won’t be the same once she leaves Leland and Rosemary in Hope Valley.

Nathan meets with Bill, where he tells him that his initial proposal plan went out the window when LJ was injured. Bill gives Nathan advice on what “not to do” when he proposes to Elizabeth, telling him that he needs to show her a side of him she has never seen.

Nathan makes his way into Elizabeth’s classroom after school is over, telling her he has something to ask her. The scene cuts to Edie and Lucas running into each other for the first time since she moved out of Hope Valley. Edie tells Lucas she decided to return to Hope Valley for the time being to help her previous clients with work.

Lucas tearfully tells Edie he is happy for her before asking her when she will be coming back from a work mission that will take her out of town for several months.

Nathan takes Elizabeth and LJ to the watertower to encourage LJ to climb to the top with him. Allie and Oliver are there for support and to help with extra safety measures. Nathan’s intention to make LJ feel strong and adventurous after not being able to hike the mountain with the older kids just might be the perfect way to show Elizabeth he is more than the man she already loves.

Smitten, Elizabeth gushes as she thanks Nathan for uplifting his spirits in a big way. When Nathan steps close as he is about to pop the question, Toby unknowingly interrupts.

Nathan and Allie have a pep talk about what his new plan is. Angela and Opal see Allie and whisk her away after she tells her dad to not miss the moment.

Gwendolyn is upset after she stains a lovely dress that Rosemary gifted her. She breaks into tears with Rosemary as she asks if she and Leland are “done” with her once she returns back to Benson Hills. Rosemary reassures her that she always has a place called home with them in Hope Valley.

Cooper presents his mom with a new “Minnie’s Cafe” sign for her storefront. The family takes a photo in front of her cafe as they rejoice in reuniting at an important time.

The Harvest Festival

The Harvest Festival begins, where Lucas puts on a magic show with some of his card tricks. Edie sees him impressing a group of onlookers, leaving her googly-eyed at him

Leland shows those at the Harvest Festival a 3D design of the Benson Hills school and town he rebuilt. As the town cheers, Lucas announces that he will be stepping down as governor. He then endorses Mayor Hickam from Benson Hills as the next Hope Valley governor. Lucas thanks Edie in front of everyone, calling her the “north star” who never stopped inspiring him.

Elizabeth has her students gather around at the festival to share what the wildfire took and gave each of them. Gwendolyn gives an emotional reflection of how much Leland and Rosemary changed her life. The moment turns into a lasting memory for the class as they write their thoughts on a piece of paper, tie it to a balloon, and release the balloon into the sky.

Mayor Hickam tells her brother, Mike, that she won’t be staying in Hope Valley to become governor. Mike storms after his sister as she walks away. He tells her that she isn’t the brave, big sister he always looked up to if she decides not to stay. The siblings have an eye-to-eye moment, resulting in Mayor Hickam agreeing to stay.

Lucas and Edie find a moment to themselves. Lucas tells Edie that working with her, doing meaningful mission work, inspired him to step down as governor. Lucas tells her that he was a fool to let her leave for Union City. Edie tells Lucas she is leaving for New York for a few months the next day. The two embrace and kiss as she agrees to allow him to join her.

Gwendolyn has an emotional sendoff with Rosemary and Leland before he heads back to Benson Hills. She gives both of them a meaningful gift. She even gave them a memento to give to Goldie, leaving the three of them in tears. The people of Benson Hills officially make their way back to their town.

Angela tells Allie she can see that Oliver is head over heels for her and says that she can also tell she has mutual feelings for him.

Nathan Proposes to Elizabeth

Elizabeth and Nathan take a walk as the Harvest Festival comes to an end. She leads him to the watertower, where they both climb to the top and peer over the edge at their beloved town, Hope Valley.

Finally, Nathan finds the right moment to ask Elizabeth to marry her. He asks her if she will walk through this valley together for the rest of his days as he places a ring on her finger. He made the ring with four stones to represent her, him, Allie and LJ. Elizabeth, of course, accepts his proposal and agrees to marry him!

The season 13 finale ends with Lori Loughlin’s character, Abigail Stanton, arriving in Hope Valley by horse and buggy. As she steps out of the carriage, she says, “It’s good to be home.”

And just like that, “When Calls the Heart” season 13 comes to an end!

  1. This was a wonderful end the season. It was fun seeing all the romances coming together. It was also fun seeing Nathan finally propose to Elizabeth. The scenes with Gwen and Mimi’s cafe were also heartwarming. It was a shame to end all of these wonderful happenings with Abagail returning to Hope Valley. We do not need her overbearing presence next season.

  2. It was great seeing all the pieces coming together in the end to make this a super finale but the icing on the cake is Nathan finally asking Elisabeth to marry him and her best friend Abigail coming back to join them once again making it all complete. Can’t wait for season 14 ❤️
