Chuck Norris had a great sense of humor and enjoyed the countless internet memes made about him, according to his longtime bodyguard and sparring partner, Tom Jones.
Jones, a decorated Muay Thai champion, spoke with “TMZ Live” on Friday, March 20, shortly after the actor’s family announced his passing.
Norris Loved All of the Jokes
“How did he feel about the memes?” host Harvey Levin asked.
Levin added, “They were so much fun,” highlighting how Norris embraced the jokes fans made about him.
Jones said, “He loved them. He loved them. And I think part of him loving them was just his personality. He had a great sense of humor.”
Jones also shared a humorous story of the first time the two sparred.
He said he laid a round kick to Norris’ face, causing him to looked at him and say, “So that’s how it’s gonna be.”
Jones said they touched gloves again and Norris “did a spinning back kick and knocked the wind out of me.”
It caused both Jones and Levin it let out laughter for the hilarious story.
Norris’ Family Shared the Sad News
Chuck Norris’ family shared a statement confirming his death to his Instagram account along with a black-and-white image of Norris.
“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace,” it read. “To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength.”
They described him as “a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.”
They added, “Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.”
His family added how much everyone’s support and well wishes means to them.
“The love and support he received from fans around the world meant so much to him, and our family is truly thankful for it. To him, you were not just fans, you were his friends,” they heartbreakingly added.
The passing of Norris has sparked an outpouring of tributes, with fans and celebrities alike remembering his legacy.
Among them, Stephen King shared some of his favorite Norris jokes in honor of the late actor.
“Seriously, I thought he was great. SILENT RAGE scared hell out of my boys…and me,” he added.
