‘Ghostbusters’ Star Jennifer Runyon’s Tragic Passing Explained – ‘She Was a Special Lady’

1980s icon Jennifer Runyon tragically passed away on Friday, March 6, her family revealed in a public statement shared via Instagram.

Shortly after news of her death began circulating, Erin Murphy, who starred as young Tabitha Stephens in the hit television sitcom Bewitched, shared that her dear friend lost her battle with cancer.

“So sad to share that my friend Jennifer Runyon Corman has passed away after a brief battle with cancer,” Murphy shared via social media on Sunday, March 8. “Some people you just know you’ll be friends with before you even meet. She was a special lady. I’ll miss you Jenn. My thoughts are with your family and beautiful children”


Jennifer Runyon’s Family Releases 1st Statement

The beloved actress’ family shared the news of her death via social media on Sunday, March 8.

“This past Friday night our beloved Jennifer passed away, it was a long and arduous journey that ended with her surrounded by her family,” the statement read, according to TMZ. “She will always be remembered for her love of life and her devotion to her family and friends. I know from above she’s looking down on all of us with her beautiful smile. Rest in peace our Jenn.”

Runyon’s mother-in-law also shared a separate tribute to the late star.

“If there was ever a perfect couple, it was my son Todd and Jennifer. Todd married Jennifer Runyon Corman 35 years ago and had two wonderful children, Wyatt and Bayley,” Nan Corman shared via Facebook. “Friday night, we lost Jenn to cancer…she fought it for six months and left all of us devastated. Life goes on, but Jenn will never be forgotten for being the perfect wife and daughter-in-law.”


Jennifer Runyon Had a Storied Career

Runyon was born in April 1960. At just 20 years old, she made her film debut in the slasher movie “To All a Goodnight.” Her career skyrocketed from there, as she joined the daytime drama “Another World” the following year.

Her big screen credits include 1984’s “Up the Creek” and “Ghostbusters,” and “The in Crowd.” She also played Gwendolyn Pierce in the first season of the Scott Baio, sitcom “Charles in Charge.”

Runyon was tapped to take over Susan Olsen’s role as Cindy Brady in the 1988 television film “A Very Brady Christmas.”

According to Forbes, Runyon said she was “semi-retired from acting” in a 2014 interview, revealed that she was spending her time teaching and hosting a cooking podcast.
