Iconic “Full House” star Bob Saget would have turned 70 on Sunday, May 17. His widow, Kelly Rizzo, made sure the day did not pass without celebration. Rizzo, 46, took to Instagram to honor the milestone with a heartfelt post that included a personal video and a warm reflection on the man Saget was and the life she believes he would still be living today.
GettySaget, beloved by generations of fans for his role as the warmhearted Danny Tanner on the ABC sitcom, died suddenly on January 9, 2022, at 65, in an Orlando hotel room, as reported by TMZ.
‘He Would’ve Been the Youngest-Feeling 70-Year-Old on the Planet’
Rizzo did not hold back in imagining exactly how Saget would have approached this milestone, and her words painted a picture that anyone who knew him would instantly recognize.
“Happy heavenly 70th birthday. Wow… 70,” she began.
“I always think about what Bob would be doing and what he’d be like if he were still here. First of all, he would absolutely want everyone to know he was the youngest-looking, youngest-feeling, and youngest-acting 70-year-old on the planet. (1000% true) And he’d still be going full steam ahead.”
She added that Saget never believed in slowing down. He “didn’t believe in retirement,” she wrote, and his “greatest joy right now would’ve been being a grandpa.”
The tribute turned tender as Rizzo let herself sit in the grief she has carried since his death. “It would be so fun to watch him still out there absolutely killing it in the comedy world,” she wrote.
“… And while my mantra since losing Bob has always been that I wasn’t robbed, because I’m so lucky I got to experience the gift of him for six beautiful years… [expletive], I really do wish we all got to see what he’d be doing today.”
She closed her post with a message of love. “We love you, we miss you, Bob. And we’re so excited to celebrate you today and every day. And I am so honored to continue to share all the Bob love.”
John Stamos Shares the Last Photo He Ever Took With His Best Friend
Rizzo was not alone in marking the day. John Stamos, 62, posted his own tribute on Instagram, describing it as one of the most personal things he has shared since losing his longtime friend and “Full House” co-star.
The post included a carousel of throwback photos, with the final image being what Stamos called the “last pic” he ever took with Saget. In it, the two men stood with their wives, Caitlin McHugh and Rizzo, at sunset in front of the ocean.
“Last pic,” Stamos wrote over the image.
GettyHis caption spoke to the kind of friendship that does not fade with time. “We used to throw each other great birthday parties. Your 70th today would’ve been epic! I miss you and love you,” he wrote.
The post also featured a video of the two singing together, concert photos, and a candid shot of Stamos embracing Saget at a drum kit.
Stamos and Saget starred together on “Full House” from 1987 to 1995, playing Jesse Katsopolis and Danny Tanner. Both later returned for the Netflix reboot “Fuller House,” which ran from 2016 to 2020.
‘Full House’ Cast and Fans Pour Out Love in the Comments
The tributes did not stop with Rizzo and Stamos. Candace Cameron Bure, who played eldest daughter D.J. Tanner on “Full House,” responded to Stamos’ post with three red heart emojis and left a message on Rizzo’s page as well.
“Happy heavenly 70th birthday to one of my favorite humans in the world. I miss you,” she wrote.
Melissa Coulier, wife of Dave Coulier, who played Joey Gladstone on the series, added her own note. “Love you so much. Happy heavenly 7-0!” she wrote.
Fans flooded both posts with messages that captured how deeply Saget’s memory still resonates.
“love this video. Happiest birthday to Bob! How lucky are we to have gotten to be in his orbit. Celebrating him is easy 🤍” one follower wrote.
Another fan wrote: “Happy 70th heavenly birthday Bob!!🎂 You were a gem and loved by all—a life well lived. I think it’s a great video Kelly, I would post it annually also! Cheers 🥂 to Bob!”
Another wrote simply, “Aww, Happy 70th to my all-time favorite TV dad growing up!! 🥹💕 The absolute best of the best ✨🍰✨”
For Stamos, the grief has never fully lifted.
On the second anniversary of Saget’s death, he wrote publicly about what it feels like to carry that loss over time.
“As time moves on, that sharp pain I felt at the beginning… it’s become a part of me. It doesn’t feel as overwhelming as it did in the first year. Maybe I’ve just gotten used to it, and I’m not sure how I feel about that,” he wrote.
“I miss him. A lot. Every day. But I’m also grateful for the time we had, for the laughs, for the friendship. He was one of a kind, and I was lucky to call him my friend.”
