Kimberly Van Der Beek Says She’s ‘Grateful’ to See Late Husband James in Their 6 Children

Kimberly Van Der Beek is reflecting on the lasting connection she shares with her late husband, James Van Der Beek, six months after his death.

Kimberly, 44, shared several family memories on her Instagram Stories while marking the milestone. According to People, the photos included moments with James and their six children, along with a picture of the longtime couple together.

While reflecting on the months since losing her husband, Kimberly shared that her feelings for James remain unchanged.

“Update… it’s been six months. I’m still in love. And realizing I always will be,” she wrote alongside a photo of the couple.

Kimberly also explained that their children give her an important connection to James as the family continues honoring his memory.

“Grateful I get to see him live through these cuties,” she added.

Kimberly Van Der Beek Honors James Through Their Children

James and Kimberly shared six children during their marriage: daughters Olivia, Annabel, Emilia and Gwendolyn and sons Joshua and Jeremiah.

The couple first met during a trip to Israel in 2009 and married the following year. Their relationship and growing family remained an important part of James’ life throughout the years that followed.

Kimberly’s latest tribute isn’t the first time she has reflected on the ways James’ presence continues to influence their family.

In June, she marked her first Father’s Day since the “Dawson’s Creek” star’s death with an emotional Instagram tribute featuring more than a dozen family photographs.

“Missing you so much and thinking of how magnificent you were in every single way today,” Kimberly wrote at the time.

She also shared her belief that James’ role as a father continues beyond his death.

“And somehow, from the other side? You continue to parent,” she wrote. “You’re a marvel.”

The accompanying photographs showed James spending time with all six children, both together as a family and individually.

James Van Der Beek Put Family at Center of Cancer Journey

James publicly revealed his stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis in November 2024 in an exclusive interview with People.

The actor said at the time that he had been privately dealing with the diagnosis while prioritizing his treatment and family. His cancer had initially been discovered following a routine colonoscopy in August 2023.

James died at age 48 earlier this year.

Kimberly announced her husband’s death on Instagram, sharing a professional photograph of the actor while reflecting on the way he approached his final days.

“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning,” she wrote. “He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace.”

In the months since his death, Kimberly has continued sharing memories that celebrate James’ roles as both her husband and the father of their children.

Her latest posts offered another glimpse at how the family is carrying that connection forward.

Six months after his death, Kimberly’s reflection focused not only on how deeply she continues to love James, but also on the pieces of him she gets to recognize every day through the family they created together.
