Christine Kominek, known to “Big Brother 16” viewers as Christine Brecht, is getting a divorce, she revealed on TikTok this week.
The former houseguest, 35, shared the update on May 10 after previously referring to herself as a “single mom” in another video. One follower noticed the detail and commented, “I missed a chapter! Single mom?!”
The Tucson, Arizona, native responded with what she called the “hard launch” of her divorce.
The update may also require some last-name context for longtime viewers. Christine competed on “Big Brother 16” as Christine Brecht. Her maiden name is Varner, while her current public name is Christine Kominek.
The divorce update is not about the same marriage viewers may remember from her time on the CBS reality series. Kominek was married to Tim Brecht during her 2014 season; the two split after the show. She later married Daniel Kominek in 2021.
Christine Kominek Reveals Divorce in ‘Unserious’ TikTok Reply
The comment gave Christine an opening to explain the life update she had not worked into her TikTok content yet.
Instead of making a separate formal announcement, Christine answered the comment directly.
“Yes, yes, yes. Everyone missed a chapter, okay? Because I didn’t know how to incorporate this chapter,” Christine said in the TikTok video.
She joked that she was not exactly sure how she was supposed to announce the news online.
“Was I supposed to make a TikTok that said, ‘Hello, I am getting divorced.’ I don’t know,” she said. “This is my hard launch, okay? I couldn’t think of any other way to do it.”
Christine then confirmed the update plainly.
“Anyways, I’m getting divorced,” she said.
Even with the major personal update about her relationship with Daniel Kominek, Christine made it clear that she was not framing the situation as a difficult split.
“But it’s very amicable and we’re staying friends and we’re co-parenting our son together,” she said. “It’s like, it’s really not a big deal. It’s not like a nasty divorce or anything. It’s actually like super chill.”
She didn’t reveal any other details about the split.
“Big Brother 20” houseguest Kaitlyn Herman commented on the video.
“I’m dying this is the most casual announcement,” she wrote.
“I’m so unserious 😭😂,” Christine replied.
Christine and Daniel got engaged in September 2020 and tied the knot in April 2021. The two welcomed their son in April 2023. Daniel also has a son from a previous relationship.
Christine Brecht’s Controversial ‘Big Brother 16’ Run
CBSChristine made it far in the game. She started the season working with Nicole Franzel and Hayden Voss before later becoming connected to The Detonators, the dominant alliance that controlled much of the season. She finished in sixth place and became the sixth member of the jury.
She remains one of the more memorable houseguests from “Big Brother 16” because of her close friendship—or “cuddlemance,” as some fans call it—with Cody Calafiore inside the house.
CBSChristine and Calafiore’s friendship became a major topic because of their physical closeness in the house. Christine was married to Brecht at the time, which made the dynamic one of the season’s biggest conversations outside the game.
During the season, “Big Brother” also visited Brecht and Christine’s parents at home for an extended segment about how Christine was acting inside the house.
“Christine’s relationship with Cody has been a little odd,” Brecht said at the time. “Personally, I do think a couple boundaries have been crossed.”
The reaction reached the live show when Christine was evicted during the double eviction. As she walked out to meet Julie Chen, the studio audience could be heard booing her, becoming one of the franchise’s most talked-about moments due to its rarity.
