‘Below Deck’ Star Shares Why She Was ‘Very, Very Nervous’ to Work With Captain Jason Chambers

Bravo’s “Below Deck” and its spinoffs have been fan-favorite shows thanks to their blend of luxury, drama, and real-life work among a diverse crew. Each series gives viewers an inside look into the high-pressure world of working aboard a superyacht, while also showcasing onboard conflict and even firings.

The pressures of working on a megayacht can get to even the most experienced yachtie, including beloved chief stew Daisy Kelliher. She’s set to appear on “Below Deck Down Under” season 4 (and even makes a cameo during the RHOSLC crossover), but adjusting to a new yacht and captain proved to be more challenging than she expected.

Daisy Kelliher Shares Her Honest Thoughts About Working Alongside Captain Jason Chambers for BDDU

In April, Bravo teased fans on Instagram with the news that “Below Deck Down Under” was returning for a fourth season, alongside fan-favorite Captain Jason Chambers back at the helm, Ben Robinson in the galley, and “Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s” Daisy Kelliher as chief stew.

Although Kelliher has plenty of experience working on luxury sailing yachts with Captain Glenn Shephard, working aboard a brand-new boat with a new captain was something that she revealed made her “very, very nervous.”

Speaking to Us Weekly in September, she shared, “I got very familiar with Parsifal and Captain Glenn Shephard and to what sailing was all about,” she began.

“[Suddenly, on Below Deck Down Under it was like], ‘Oh, can I do this? What’s it going to be like? Am I going to clash with the captain? Can I do a motorboat? I think it was good for me to change and be given a new challenge, but I was certainly very, very nervous,” she shared.

Additionally, to prepare for her role on BDDU, Kelliher admitted she watched Captain Jason at work in previous seasons to get a sense of his leadership style. However, she chose not to ask any of his former crew members for advice.

“I wanted to have my own experience,” she said. “I’m human, like everybody else, and I didn’t want my experience to be influenced by other opinions…I’d watched the season, so I had an idea of what I was walking into. I knew Jason was going to be there, and that’s all I really needed to know,” she told the outlet.

Fans Got A Glimpse of Kelliher at Work on the RHOSLC Crossover

As of this writing, there is still no premiere date for the fourth season of BDDU, but fans were in for a treat when the ladies of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” boarded Captain Jason’s yacht for a crossover special for season 6. Their charter will also be seen in the upcoming season of BDDU.

Although the episodes spotlighted the Utah ladies’ never-ending drama, viewers also got a glimpse of the “Below Deck Down Under” crew, with Kelliher holding it down as chief stew like a pro. But let’s be honest, she and the rest of the crew had no idea what they were in for when the RHOSLC women stepped aboard. Here’s hoping they received a pretty big tip at the end of the charter.

When Captain Jason spoke with Us Weekly about having to work with a new chief stew after Aesha Scott left for “Below Deck Med” season 10, he was confident that Kelliher would absolutely crush it in her role.

“And I’m happy to have Daisy come back. She works well, she works hard,” he said, adding, “She’s authentic, and she really cares about the job. Daisy brought her A-game and she didn’t hold anything back. When she wants something, she gets it.”
