According to multiple reports, “The Real Housewives of Potomac” star Karen Huger will be released early from prison on Tuesday, September 2, after serving just over six months of her two-year sentence tied to a February DUI case. The 62-year-old reality star was originally sentenced to two years, with one year suspended, plus five years of probation following her late-night crash just miles from her Potomac home.
Following her release, which was first reported by The Jasmine Brand, her return could be bigger than anyone expected. Bravo and Cocktails reports, “As RHOP season 10 wraps filming, Karen Huger’s team is in active negotiations for a last-minute return timed to her release on September 2, 2025.”
“The plan would set the stage for a two-to-three-episode spinoff documenting Karen’s return from jail and her journey readjusting to life on the outside, and lead to her full-time return for season 11,” the source concluded.
Karen Huger’s DUI Case and Prison Sentence
In February, Huger was hit with multiple charges after a late-night crash where her car slammed into several trees and street signs. Police bodycam footage painted a chaotic scene, showing the Bravo star slurring her words, stumbling, and even name-dropping Andy Cohen and Abraham Lincoln in the same breath while admitting she’d had “a couple of beers.”
Court filings accused Huger of DUI, DWI, reckless driving, negligent driving, failing to control her vehicle speed, driving with a suspended registration, and failing to notify the DMV of an address change.
During her sentencing, Huger turned to her husband, Ray Huger, and reportedly reassured him, “You will be alright. God’s got you,” according to witnesses in the courtroom.
The Grande Dame’s Road to Recovery
Huger began addressing her struggles publicly during the RHOP season 9 reunion. In a taped video message, she admitted she had “blacked out” during the crash and struggled to even recognize herself in the police footage.
“No, I’m not an alcoholic, let’s be clear,” Huger said. “Do as I say, not as I do.”
Still, she acknowledged the gravity of the incident: “This is very frightening, but I accept full responsibility for everything that went on with my car accident.”
Her legal team noted that Huger had been active in Alcoholics Anonymous and completed a 28-day treatment program. Prosecutors, however, emphasized her history of alcohol-related driving cases dating back to 2006.
